talking to a person about buying a car. They would sell through ebay. told me with buyer protection that I have 5 days to test vehicle but can't put more than 500km on car. If unsatisfied can be returned at seller expense.
I have never bought a vehicle through ebay so checking to see what others know on the topic. I am skeptical it works this way.

Hi skeptical is a good thing. Buying a car on ebay means clicking on Motors above.
My guess is you found an ad on another site and are communicating with a SCAMMER.
A common scam on sites like Craigslist , Autotrader etc.
If so , cease communication and report the ad on the site found.
There is no car and ebay has nothing to do with other sites.

A lot of experienced bidder do 2 things.. never place an even # bid to reduce the possibility of a tie. Routinely i use $10.(51) and place their max bid as close to auctions end as possible , win or lose.
Sniping in the dying seconds eliminates needed reaction time by others to increase their bid.

Sorry , last post meant for another thread ..please ignore.

There is no car.
If you send money you will never see it again.
She is not a widow.
He is not an oceanographer at sea.
It's called the Kubota Tractor scam, from its first iteration.
Report the scam listing to the site you found it on.
Do NOT continue to communicate.
Change all your passwords.

"talking to a person about buying a car"
....that you didn't find on ebay.
"told me with buyer protection that I have 5 days to test vehicle "
Did you look in Customer Support to see what ebay says about buyer protection?
"so checking to see what others know on the topic"
Don't rely on others. Find out for yourself directly from the source: ebay's Customer Support.
It sounds like you didn't fall for the scam which is good. However, relying on what someone else say, including us, about anything that you need to know is not a good game plan. We could lie to you just as easily as the scammer did (not all responders give correct answers).
Remember this: you will never expect to go to one grocery store and have then tell you to complete your transaction at their competitor down the street. Whenever you find something not on ebay, the other site is an ebay competitor and never will the other site tell you to complete your transaction on ebay, their competitor.
Since you had other successful transactions, use them as a guide as to how all transactions should be conducted: you found an item on ebay. You either placed a bid and won or used the Buy It Now button; paid for the item; waited for it to be shipped. It was all conducted on ebay. Anything else is a scam.
Another thing to remember: a crook will tell you anything to separate you from your money. Also, read those warnings ebay has in each one of those emails you've received when you had an ebay transaction. They're there for your protection.
