can i retract a bid before an auction ends and how?

Depends on when you made the bid and how much time is left in the auction.

It also depends on why you want to do it.

It is NOT TRUE that you can retract your bid in less than 12 hours if you bid in 1 hour.  I did tested a few times and it won't work at all regardless of what eBay's policy said!! 

So be careful.

We you trying to retract just your last bid or previous bids as well? In that situation it will only retract the one bid. At least that is how it is supposed to work.
