Items purchased from out of Canada and costing over $20 are liable to be assessed for duty and for sales tax. In addition, the shipper, usually either Canada Post or PitneyBowes/Global Shipping Program, will add a service charge for processing these fees, which go to the Canadian government.
If you purchase from within Canada, only sellers who are registered to collect taxes can do so. The seller's tax number should appear on the invoice.
