eBay Launches International Classifieds Websites

We would like to announce our launch of online classifieds Web sites in select international markets. Launched under the brand Kijiji, which means “village” in Swahili, the Web sites offer people in the same city a convenient way to meet, have fun, share ideas, and trade various goods and services.

Kijiji is now available in more than 50 cities in Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan. In Canada, Kijiji is available in French only in Montreal and Quebec City. From building friendships and trading large appliances to talking about the city’s best restaurants or looking for a babysitter, Kijiji is designed to help people connect.

We encourage you to visit the Kijiji site, post a classified, and tell us what your experience has been. Is it easy to use? Do you like the site? Would you use Kijiji?

Kijiji

eBay Pink, Kitty will be reading this thread and answering your questions.

Regards,
Carly

Well it is competition for ebay. I put my items up on both kijiji and craigs while I wait for the ebay.ca listing promotion days. About 25% of my stuff sells before it ever reaches ebay. Some of it sells while listed on both ebay and kijiji sites and I then cancel the ebay auction if it has no bids.

I have used this site and not really impressed with it. it would be nice to search for an item through out the whole comunity not just one city at a time.

I love Kijiji. I used it to find the right size aquarium, a kitten, and a puppy. It is a great way to let your wants get out there and others can contact you. Thanks Kijiji.

Kijiji is a joke:^O. Craigslist has nothing to worry about. Craigslist is a community whereas Kijiji, at least in this area, is all dealers peddling chinese wares, tupperware, and other trinkets. Less than 5% of the ads are ordinary people selling. At least on Craigslist, users can flag and kick the commercial sellers off. I do it all the time 🙂 Why would someone want to deal with a merchant on a community site?

lots of trash, solicitation, etc. on Kijiji; a few spoil it for everybody. Not impressed because items fall from page 1 very fast with repeated ads and garbage.

I prefer the set up on kijiji better than craigslist but I put my items up on both and the response seems to be about equal.

On ebay, you use the "report this Listing" button at the bottom of the particular listing.

On Kijiji, you call the cops.

How do I report a scam or spam Ad that I have found on Kijiji?
If you find a questionable Ad on Kijiji, please click the "Report illegal/infringing Ad" link found on an Ad's page (this link is on the right hand side of the page). This will report the Ad to our community support group for further review.

I hate Kijiji! I have tried to post ads for dogs I have for sale, and they delete them. I have followed all rules listed and yet they will not respond to my questions. I have sent message after message, with no reply as to why they have deleted my ads, and have now blocked me from posting ads! Maybe someone here can explain. It is unfair. I had a page and a half of ads, there are people with 6,7,8 pages of ads of dogs for sale. How does Kijiji pick and choose who gets to keep their posts up and who does not?!?!?! Totally unfair!!!

kijiji is full of losers with no cash that try to snaggle stuff for 10% of its value.

The discussion forum is quite the joke as some of the regular posters are complete morons. Wannabe mods with no life.

Customer service is non existent.

just looked at it quickly. i'm definitely not impressed with some of the categories posted ... especially, animals for sale. "impressed" isn't the word i would use for this category. disgusted is getting a little more accurate. i don't think advertising animals in this venue promotes responsible animal care, breeding or ownership.

as an animal lover, i would hate to think puppy mills are using this site!! they need to be shut down not given an avenue to further animal cruelty.

i hope my impressions and reasoning are wrong but please think about this!!

I have been using Kijiji for about a year. Here is the good and the bad.

I'm in Quebec, so French is no problem for me. Kijiji in Quebec is a much needed venue for classified ads. I also use Lespac and a couple of other French classified ad online services, but I get the most replies from Kijiji placed ads in Quebec. So this is great.

The bad sides are threefold:

I flip back and forth between Granby, St. Hyacinthe, St. Jean sur Richelieu, Drummonville, Montreal, Ottawa, Cornwall and Kingston. When I want to put an ad in, I have to enter the same ad individually upteen times instead of once for all places. When selling a Morgan horse (which is not a common breed in Canada), for example, I want the widest possible coverage. So it takes a long time to place the ads.

Secondly, coverage in Cornwall, Ottawa and Kingston (all the English areas) is poor. Kijiji needs to do some advertising here to promote the English areas. It's almost not worth it to place ads in these areas.

And lastly, the site is very slow at times. It could be because of the flash ads. And don't tell me to clean my cache - that's the standard ebay response. The cache isn't the problem. It is so bad on some days that I back out and don't bother with it on that day.
