eBay Launches International Classifieds Websites

We would like to announce our launch of online classifieds Web sites in select international markets. Launched under the brand Kijiji, which means “village” in Swahili, the Web sites offer people in the same city a convenient way to meet, have fun, share ideas, and trade various goods and services.

Kijiji is now available in more than 50 cities in Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan. In Canada, Kijiji is available in French only in Montreal and Quebec City. From building friendships and trading large appliances to talking about the city’s best restaurants or looking for a babysitter, Kijiji is designed to help people connect.

We encourage you to visit the Kijiji site, post a classified, and tell us what your experience has been. Is it easy to use? Do you like the site? Would you use Kijiji?

Kijiji

eBay Pink, Kitty will be reading this thread and answering your questions.

Regards,
Carly

Kapoorankoosh,
If the buyer wants to pay through Paypal it is secure, however, you will be deducted PP fees.
I have purchased with a bank transfer (recommended) for a trailer that I picked up enroute, it cost me, the buyer $1.25? Both parties were completely satisfied.
However, it did upset others who wanted to purchase it, first come, first served!!

OOPS,
I got confused as to which one was the buyer!
You can purchase through Paypal or just send money to anyone, however, BUYER BEWARE!
If you are buying, check the sellers ratings on ebay if he has an account!
Again, Paypal is secure, but is the seller!
Personally, I have bought and sold using PP and bank transfer because I live in the sticks, however again, I make enquiries into the other parties reputation, phone # and address verifications, etc

I have used the site and I find it very easy to use. It was easy to contact the seller of an item I was interested in and we made the transaction with no problem.
The site is only French in the French speaking two provinces.

Kapoorankush that is a 100% SCAM!! There is no such thing as eBay payments or money transfer through eBay or delivery done through eBay. They don't do that.

It's all a complete lie to make you feel secure by telling you eBay this and eBay that and then they steal your money.

100% SCAM!

Please don't fall for those lines. eBay is like a newspaper. People place ads in it to sell things. They happen to offer a payment service PayPal. But they themselves don't take money, the don't hold goods to inspect them, they don't ship the goods, there are no such things as eBay agents or any such nonsense.

As soon as you hear that, the person is lying to you. RUN!!!

Come See What Else We've Got Up For Auction!

When you find doing what's right hard to do - you've got a problem.

KIJIJI is great for a free service for buying & selling.
Just like newspaper classified ads.
I used it in Alberta & now I'm using it in Ontario.
I've bought & sold & only did cash transactions in person.
I only put info in the ad to describe what I am selling & the town I live in.
If buying, I ask where it is right away.
Too easy!

I do agree that the lack of certain areas suck!
Peerhaps a search could be made comprising of several areas at once.

I guess even if something is free, folks will find away of complaining about it too.

Merry Christmas
^_^

Kijiji is very hard to find anything in because it seems people just keep posting the same ads over and over. A search will find say 100 items but there really are only about ten , the rest are duplicates. Someone should be culling through and blowing away a lot of the useless ads

The reason people list the same item over and over again is because that makes it appear at the top of a search. When I list an item it gets alot of hits the first couple of days and then hardly anyone looks at it for the next 58 days. Then if you repost it when kijiji prompts you to, it again gets alot of hits. Thus most posters will relist their items every few days.

I have looked at it several times, and used it to buy a new vehicle recently, however, it is quitre annoying to have to change cities and see a lot of the same listings again and again. It would be much easier to search all cities and just past the cities that I could not get to to complete the transaction.

I have never found it to be all french as the other posts mention. There are a few postings in french but the majority in english, where I looked.

As well, there is not a chance I would be looking for a sitter of the net. I can not beleive that was even an option, has anyone heard of internet pedophiles????

unfortunately there are pedophiles everywhere, its just as likely to encounter them through a newspaper or any other type of media - that is why all parents need to use great caution and diligence - no matter they find a sitter

I don't understand this statement here.

I have a car ad running right now on Kijiji, and I was under the impression that I am only allowed to list it in one location,,, the location nearest me

It's right now listed in Kelowna, but I wanted to place it in Vancouver, and was told that I was not allowed to do this?

No you can list it in other areas. I do it all the time with my books. I live in Toronto and list everything on the Toronto board, but if I have a book that I think might be of special interest to buyers in another city, I also list it in their area. For example right now I have a history book about Kingston, so I have also listed it on the Kingston board.

I list in multiple locations - and yes, it is a PITA to have to switch cities and write the listing all over again ...

If you can mail the item(s) you have for sale, why not list in all the major cities and see what kind of buyers you can find out there?

Kijiji Sucks. I have tried posting something that has a banned word because the same brand name is used by a banned item. Admitted it was an oversightt, said they would and 3 weeks later nothing. Sent another email, and 1 week....still nothing. If you are going to offer a service, offer the support to go with it or don't offer it all. Usedottawa.com all the way!!!

It isn't really Kijiji that sucks it is the people that use it. I don't mind answering tons of questions. If I'm at my computer they get answered, if not they can wait. What really bugs me is when someone says yes I definitely want the item and communication ends. No phone calls, no emails nothing. This weekend took the cake. Some inconsiderate jerk was in desperate need of an engine stand. I had one in the garage attic but it would be quite a job getting it down. After numerous messages and sensing an urgency and a genuine need I spent the time dragging it down and cleaning it up. NO SHOW NO CALL NOTHING! Next I get sucked in by another uncaring person. He needs a 40GB HDD for a laptop. I have one but I would like to get it cleaned up and reformatted if it is going to be sold. He definitely wants it and will call later in the day. Well the drive is ready to go and guess what? It is now the next day and no call. I wasted the whole day yesterday trying to help what I thought were 2 people in need. KIJIJI USERS SUCK!!!

Can eBay Capitalize on Kijiji's Potential?

http://seekingalpha.com/article/65820-can-ebay-capitalize-on-kijiji-s-potential?source=yahoo

With each passing month, eBay's Kijiji service continues to gain users at an unprecedented rate. Kijiji New York alone has over 22,000 ads. What is impressive is that Kijiji's ads last one week and there is a limit of 25 ads per person. Thus, the majority of ads are not from spammers. Craigslist, possibly feeling the heat, has extended their ads to last 30 plus days. Additionally Craigslist is so cluttered that one gets lost visiting the site.

Many people still do not even know that Kijiji exists as advertising has been limited. However, Kijiji's clean interface and easy to use map make it a prime favorite to overtake Craigslist in the not too distant future. Now if only eBay can make money from the site. Note to eBay: Please at least start putting some display advertising on the site. If you wait too long, there will be too many users and we will start hearing the crying whining pains of "We will boycott Kijiji if ads appear." eBay is allocating a lot of resources to Kijiji. One can also say that eBay's 25% investment in Kijiji was used to learn the classified trade. Thus Ebay needs to monetize the site and soon.

Kijiji is great in alot of ways. It's growing at a fast rate. Don't go to the discussion board though.
They are very unfriendly! I asked an innocent question & was jumped all over with big capital letters! I responded back nicely & was jumped on again & again. They're like a pack of wolves. It's mainly mod wannabe's.
Not good for business at all. I'm a big girl with tough skin but I'd hate for them to treat a child that way.

Ur right connie, some people are so bored, depressed and negative they attack anything lol.

I get negative about things too, but when I see positive signs on something, I am the first to admit to it.
