I worked in private industry most of my life. When a business is doing thousands or millions of dollars in business with various suppliers, those suppliers would either (a) give tokens of their appreciation for the business they were given or (b) not give anything.
However for a supplier (eBay is a supplier of service) to discriminate by giving to the US Power Sellers over Canadian Power Sellers or others from other countries, it is an insult that shakes the very foundation of the community.
The fact that eBay is a major supplier and a major cost for most people selling on eBay and in most instances it is their sole marketing venue.
eBay must promote itself in order to fulfill its end of the business, to draw buyers to the site so that we Sellers can sell our items, thereby justifying existing fees or fee increases.
Of late, there are fewer marketing aids (coffee mugs, bumper stickers, window stickers, business cards or holders etc etc etc) and far fewer television, radio and print ads being made available.
We pay eBay to market themselves and our products and they have almost critically reduced the amount of marketing necessary to drive our businesses forward.
I dont look at them as a community, nor a partner, nor an employer. They are simply a supplier of a service who is now charging too much for the amount of business they are generating.
The "tokens" are just further evidence of their deep pockets being partially open for Power Sellers south of the boarder and not up here however they are still failing in their overall primary responsibility for which they levy fees, and that is marketing eBay to bring in Buyers.
