We do not have enough competition already. Bring more sellers!

Sellers often buy so perhaps that is their strategy.
However, if they want to encourage new people to sell, they should make the system much less complicated.

There is a lot of 'ifs' in that offer. The item has to sell for starters. So....
I was appalled by the high-pressure 'SELL YOUR STUFF NOW!' tactics when I recently opened an account on ebay.com. With zero feedback to my brand-new user ID, why would the corporation expect me to know anything about selling here? eBay is NOT simple. You have to buy first if you want to hope to know how to sell something. Zero feedback sellers have zero chance of success... and potential for a high-rate of exploitation by less-than scrupluous buyers.
This offer is like a coupon for a free trip to Siberia if the temperature cracks 45+ degrees Celsius in Winnipeg in January.

Wow, this is a really smart idea from your friends at eBay. Lure in people who don't know (and likely won't care to know) what they're doing and who will alienate even more buyers.
Why doesn't eBay focus some effort on enticing back the experienced sellers who have left -- you know, the ones who know how to make buyers happy and make money for eBay over the long term? EBay must still have their email addresses and phone numbers on file -- if they don't wait too long!
What eBay should also look at is how to get more of its traditional buyers back. When I see that the majority of my sales since mid-2013 have been to new buyers (nothing wrong with that as it stands), it tells me that a lot of experienced buyers have left eBay too and have not come back.
How much more dull-witted can those guys in San Jose get?

"your friends at eBay"
???
I do not have any friends left in San Jose. Over the years they moved on.

May I recommend some reading to cheer you up?
It is, really, the most entertaining book to read. My children love it. Which probably makes me the worst parent ever.

That book does look great. Most suitable for my youngest granddaughters (age 2 and 4 next month).
I went to buy it (BIN) when I saw the low price of US$5.17 with "free shipping".
Oooops! "free shipping" was for domestic (USA) shipping. To Canada is US$12.49 (Cdn$ 16.34)
I guess Mary will get it next time she goes to Chapters (Cdn$ 13.65)
Thanks for the tip!

Strange how you thought this was directed to you personally. I wasn't referring to, or even thinking of your personal friends. It honestly didn't even occur to me.
This was meant as the rhetorical "your friends at....", referring to eBay in regard to all of us as sellers. As in "your friends at the CBC".

"...you thought this was directed to you"
Strange? The post was in reply to mine.
A generic expression would be "our friends".
"your friends" seems to me to be directed to whoever the post is addressed to.

No, believe me Pierre, I was speaking to sellers in general, as in "look what your friends have done now to help you".
Sorry you didn't get the slightly obscure humour.

Followed your recommendation and purchased this book for my 12-years old grandson.
He visited me last weekend and because of my books on eBay we had quite a lengthy discussion about the reading and popular (classical) authors...
Gave him a couple of good English books (although published in USSR) and he seemed eager to read them.
With this book will try to go further. His aunt and uncle live in PA and they are very frequent visitors here, so it was right for me to get the FREE SHIPPING's advantage.
Thank you, Maureen!
