Frankly I am not sure what you mean.  Are you unhappy with the auction format at eBay? Where is the problem?

Do you prefer to buy at fixed price?

About 90% of eBay listings are at fixed price.

I'm not sure what it is that you are complaining about. The bidding can only go as high as someone is willing to pay for an item. A real person has to put in the amount that they are willing to pay for something, and if no one bids higher than that, then the bidding will not go higher. I think that maybe you are just a tad paranoid about this. Maybe you should cancel your internet access account, and just use your computer to play hearts offline.

So can your mother.

I'd worry about that more.

Actually yes it does.

Another issue:
What I have seen with one company is that they consistently close their bidding at oh-god hundred hours EST. This is a Canadian company, and while I understand that a Seller can close at any time they wish; why the early time frame?

It seems to me that they are trying to target a Buyer group. Perhaps out of continent? I really can't see the reason why they would do this?

micaylah

There are five and a half time zones in  Canada. Six in the USA (don't forget Alaska and Hawai'i).

Then there is a decent market in Australasia and a better one in Europe.

It is quite possible that the seller has found that her best market is outside North America.

Or she may be an insomniac. Or shift worker. Or have a new baby that wakes every two hours.

And then there is electronic snipe bidding. DH buys in Australian auctions fairly often and uses esnipe since they close during Australian working hours, when he would prefer to be asleep.

Winning these auctions is easy. Bid once, bid whenever it is convenient for you, bid your maximum.

You may be outbid by some nitwit who pays too much, but you never will pay more than you are willing to bid.

I am seeing the point. It was just an observation and a question. One that maybe others have seen too.

My apologies, your post didnt really inspire.
