I found we are paying Import charges i computers ect.

under Category 5 we do not have to

 

list  all  are duty free !!!!!

You are correct there is no duty, but there is GST, PST or HST, which is what most of us pay when it says import charges.

 

For items over the $20 thresh-hold, Canadians will always pay the taxes when the US seller uses the GSP program, or uses a Currier such as UPS, FedEx etc. There is also a very high brokerage fee charged in addition to the taxes. Do not use them across the border.

 

Customs lately seems to be collecting the taxes owed more and more, even the items shipped with USPS. It's a bonus for Canada Post, as they get to charge their brokerage fee ($9.95) as well.

 

The best option is to search, find and buy from a Canadian seller, of course, if that is possible.

As has been stated, duty-free does not mean tax-free. Duty is a specific kind of tax; you've paid sales tax.

And yes, sales tax also applies to USED goods.
