I am running into sellers who must be relatively new since they believe they MUST use the GSP to ship to Canada. They either do not understand it or don't really care whether they lose a Cnadian buyer.I have gotten caught once only with this program and it cost an additional $50.00 or so just in PIt BOW fees plus the customs fees(which I can handle, NOT the PB fees)I will now be a non eBay buyer in any case since this program does nothing but impede USA purchases for Canadians ONLY.I cannot believe anyone with global buyer awareness would have approved this program. It knocks out about 80% of any item being searched for worldwide shipping.I have been a buyer and seller( seller ID different) since 1995 and do not sell any longer and now will have my buying restricted severely solely because of this GSP .eBay needs to pay attention to it's buyer in Canada. At the very least Canadians should be allowed the same value as the USA has for the customs free level of buying.I know that is our own government but honestly it needs to be changed....unless it has changed unbeknownst to me.Caio and unfortunately no more buys with this program for me, sadly.I have loved eBay .

Every red blooded Canadian hates the GSP.
It is a Seller Protection program that does nothing for the buyer.
That being said, this puzzles me.
and it cost an additional $50.00 or so just in PIt BOW fees plus the customs fees(which I can handle, NOT the PB fees
The GSP service fee is about $5 USD. Duty is assessed on any purchase over $20 Cdn (~$16 USD), and is usually somewhere between nothing (non-dutiable goods) and a fairly small percentage of the selling price.
What can be very high is the Sales Tax which is levied whether duty is applicable or not.
If your purchase was not dutiable, ON sales tax on a $300 purchase would be about $45.
What was the actual breakdown?
BTW- you can spot and ignore GSP listings by Searching on a desk/laptop using List rather than Gallery.
Then the dreaded "Customs services and international tracking provided" lets you know to avoid that listing.
The warning does not show on Gallery View or on mobiles.

You have to consider that with the majority of listings where the GSP has been applied inappropriately (i.e. for lightweight, modestly-valued items), the seller may have no idea that their item is being made available for international shipping, or else they don't care as they wouldn't be offering direct international shipping if the GSP weren't available on eBay.
In the old days before the GSP, you'd probably have to figure out some way to get the item from the States yourself, e.g. have it delivered to a relative and have them mail it to you or have it held by them until your next visit stateside. In fact, those options are still available to you if you shop on the .com site using an American shipping address.
For the most part, I don't think the GSP has replaced direct shipping from the United States.
