I had to Verify it was me. What a pain

I was on ebay shopping for some cell phone stuff. I try to log in and am confronted with a demand to reset my password but no button or Link.  Frustrating and humiliating that I am required to prove my identity and change my password. I spent 15 minutes figuring it out. 

Well now that I have proved to ebay that I am who I am, I ordered from Amazon instead. I am insulted and what a huge waste of time. So many  online retail choices now, I don't have to buy from sellers who jerk me around.

you haven't had any apparent account activity in 12 months, i would be pleased to see that after almost a year i am be asked for my information again, and i would be upset if they didn't ask..  better than someone hacking your account, then trying to dig yourself out of that hole..

I’m not sure the reason you’re upset. I think I’d be thankful the company was making efforts to ensure my account hadn’t been hijacked in my absence.

I was upset because it was very inconvenient. Very unnecessary. Amazon and Fasttech have never stopped me from making a purchase in order to have me change my password and verify my identity. Ebay made it difficult to do what they wanted, no button ,link or instructions. I shop online because it is easy. Ebay made it difficult and not fun. went to amazon and I was done in a minute.

I kinda see where this buyer is coming from. No other online marketplace asks for photo ID unless there is a reason for it like someone already tried hacking into their account or their address was flagged.

Buyer accounts are almost useless to hack into because what are you going to do really? You can't really buy yourself anything, if you manage to it will get charged back, and you definitely can't get the credit card details. In fact lots of hackers go for buyer accounts just for the personal data as it's more valuable in bulk and I'm willing to bet eBay knows that.

I wanted to make some quick purchases.  ebay could have included a button or link or instructions that made the request easy to do. instead I spent 15 minute figuring out how to change my password and verify my account. I wasted time, l felt it was unnecessary. 

Also. the emails ebay sends asking to reset your password looked like phishing scams.

Just so we have a bit of clarity here, it was not a seller who was doing this to you, it is an eBay Anti Fraud system that prevents accounts that are dormant to suddenly starting selling brand new iPhones for $200 then vanishing into the night leaving YOU with the bill.

Also, nowhere in this thread did the OP mention (that I recall) that eBay required Photo ID. If eBay ever "asked" for photo ID, I highly suspect it would be a scammer, NOT eBay.
