can I pay for my order later?

I'm trying to buy two different items from the same seller and combine the shipping. asked the seller to send them together,  he agreed but wants me to  not pay for the orders so he can change/adjust the shipping charge.

well, I tried that , had to commit to buy and "ask seller for total" then ebay informed me that the seller will not combine shipping.

The thing is, this seller insists it is still possible to buy now and pay later in such a way that my orders goes in his "pending payment" , but unfortunately does not know how to direct me to do this.

I must add that I know this HK seller for a few years now and used to be able to do this type of transactions a few times in the past  but not anymore, right now the way things are if I want my order ,it looks like I have to pay for both items and also pay the two separate shipping charges.

My question  is,how could I buy an item and pay after the seller has had a chance to adjust the total and send a new revised invoice?

Please let me know whether this is still possible and how.

Thank you.

Ken.

Re: can I pay for my order later?

It "appears" that it is possible something has changed in these processes recently. I had a customer yesterday make a purchase and pay immediately. Then decided they wanted to add to something to the order to consolidate shipping charges, which I had no problem to allow. There seemed to be no way for the customer to request a revised invoice without ordering either 2 of the same item or 2 different items. They ended up purchasing 2 of the same item and I had to refund for 1. Really not sure what has changed. Just believe this should not have become such a difficult process. Did confirm during this that item was NOT set up for Immediate Payment required so there should not have been any issues. If anyone can show where this is clarified in eBay current policies, the information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: can I pay for my order later?

Is this happening when you're logged into ebay.com or ebay.ca?

Is the shipping cart involved?

Re: can I pay for my order later?

Add all of the BIN items to your cart, then hit Request total from seller. You won't have to pay anything. Once the seller adjusts the total, then you can pay.

If the seller is trying to get you to do something else, I'm not sure what they're trying to do...

Re: can I pay for my order later?

I have tried both , "buy it now" and the shopping cart route, the shopping cart seemed to be the easiest at first but when I added two items in my  cart ,it automatically calculated two shipping charges, so I commited to buy in order to request seller for total, then I got a message from ebay saying something like "this seller does not combine shipping charges" so I ended up buying them paying two shipping charges.

In my next  purchase I bought one item and paid ,then  after a few minutes I decided to buy something else and asked the seller if it was possible to buy another item and combine the shipping, he said "sure buy it but don't pay for it until I see it in my pending payment column, then I'll send you a new invoice" but unfortunately that did not work and I had to  buy the second item(b/c I really wanted it) and paid full price for shipping.

He felt bad for charging me twice so his remedy was/is  to wait until I receive the two orders(which I got them both in one package this morning) then file a item not as described and then he'll give me a partial refund, that to me is one long way to solve a simple problem  so it  got me thinking why is it so hard to receive a revised invoice after a sale ? there has to be a way for sellers to correct/revise/change an invoice without me filing a fake dispute .

So far ,based on my limited experience , when you buy something on ebay.ca you must pay  immediately or the sale does not go through, some sellers may have their listings setup in such a way that you can request a total after you commit to buy but  in general ,  a seller can not revise an invoice after a sale so it seems. so here we are and I'm not sure of the answer .

BTW, thank you all for chiming in and sharing your thoughts.

Re: can I pay for my order later?

In the future in situations where a seller will combine but system won't let them when there is an overcharge with shipping it can be refunded from the transaction in Paypal with a brief explanation as to reasons behind the refund. Should be no need to file a Not as described report.

Re: can I pay for my order later?

I offered that (refund through paypal) as a viable /easy solution, but for some reason he did not want to go that route .

The good news is he just gave me partial refund as he promised . he had asked me to file a item not as described claim which I did, that's how I got my partial refund,  I just find it very strange that he's not too worried about getting a defect ,this was his best solution and both of us are happy .

Thank you for your reply, thank you all for all your comments.

Regards.

Re: can I pay for my order later?

Just wondering out loud, when a buyer files an item not as described and the seller gives a partial refund, does the seller get a partial refund on the final value fee as well? Is that why this seller wanted the buyer to file item not as described...? The item value must be pretty high if the seller would rather get the partial FVF refund than eat a defect.

Re: can I pay for my order later?

I could not answer that since I'm not a seller and have no idea how this type of refund after a claim would impact a sellers standing  but I can tell you the cost of the items were not high ,they were  around $46 CDN including the shipping.

He is one busy cutting tool seller  and well known amongst hobby machinists but having said that, I'm still baffled  why he would choose refund to a INAD claim rather than simply refund through paypal, I even sent him my personal email so he could send money like many of us do.

He is an HK seller with good command of English as well so there's no language barrier either.

Thanks for chiming in Z-chan.
