eBay Favor Scammer Seller with Tracking Provided but Shipped to Wrong Place

I am writting here to see if you have similar experience, I would like to see if we should requesst eBay to do something, e.g. class lawsuit for supporting & nurturing scammer, if we have sufficient victims here.

My situation was

  1. Bought an item
  2. Seller shipped it with tracking number (via FedEx)
  3. Tracking status updated to delivered, but I got nothing
  4. Double check the tracking information, I could only see postal code, but the postal code is not my address's postal code
  5. Asked seller where it shipped to, seller just replied it's shipped and never provide the real address he/she shipped to
  6. Open a case to eBay team, eBay team "reviewed", but they favor seller as tracking info provided and showed delivered. (That's exactly the problem, seller ship whatever thing to somewhere I never knew)
  7. Appeal the case, eBay reviewed again, closed my case and stick to the original decision
  8. Tried to get the attention from eBay CEO Jamie via email, but I guess my email get into spam and never got read
  9. I finally find a way to do an online chat with eBay, he checked on my case, spend 30s, and he agreed on my situation reported but he cannot do anything as there was case opened and then closed. He suggested me to go through bank to file a dispute to get refund, as he mentioned that he went through a lot of cases like this and it 100% works to get refund.

If it looks familar to you, you are not alone. While I am working with bank to file a dispute and hoping that I can get the money back that I might have to wait for couple months, I am wishing eBay can do something to:

  1. Get the list of scammer reported/spotted, hand them over to local enforcement as eBay has their information
  2. Train the customer service team to review case seriously, the team favor seller by barely seeing the tracking number provided & delivered but not spending 30s to check the tracking address detail.

I hope you do not need to go through the journey I had, and I hope eBay can do the right thing instead of just do thing right in order to make & keep the platform great.

What was communicated to you by eBay customer service when you pointed out that the postal code in the tracking information was not the one associated with your address in the transaction details?

Good luck with that. File a Chargeback and move on. Your wasting your time with the rest.

The eBay phone clerks are not actually employees of eBay but are sub-contractors. They are often unaware that Canada is a sovereign country with different rules and ways of doing business.

The US zipcodes cover vast areas. Canadian postal codes cover a single "postal walk" and urban carriers often cover several walks in a given shift. A high rise apartment may have several postal codes.

The actually eBay employees who cover social media are much better informed, and possibly more to the point are able to understand and act on new information.

You could contact one of these, the FaceBook team have a good reputation, and explain your problem.

However, I agree with @ericsells75  that you are more likely to get quick action by filing for a chargeback on the credit card you used to pay.

@femmefan1946, the OP's advice on pursuing a payment reversal was from an eBay online chat session, so they might as well continue pursuing the chargeback.

I agree.

But should that fail it is good to know that he still can go to his credit card. *ducks brickbats thrown by sellers*
