It varies from category to category.
That isn't my experience, but my customers (I sell with several IDs) run to people who actually like to follow instructions.
Sportscards on the other hand.... And electronics are worse.
As sellers we have only two choices: tracking or Cookie Jar Insurance.
We have to ask ourselves: "How often does this actually happen?" and "Can I afford the occasional loss, compared to selling fewer items with tracked shipping?"
And tracking is expensive- especially to our biggest market, the USA.
I do find I have more questions about late deliveries from the USA than from my smaller European market. Americans are used to cheap tracking-- about 25c if shipping is purchased online.
If we decide to go commando on tracking, we have to use Cookie Jar Insurance, setting aside a small amount from every sale in a virtual Cookie Jar as a self-insurance premium against problems.
The best thing about CJI is it covers most problems, not just Item Not Received claims (which includes late deliveries, the customer is not always wrong) and our own dumb mistakes (selling a blue sweater and sending a red one) but damage in transit which postal insurance is loathe to pay out on.
The retail standard for losses is thought to be one percent. If you are having more than one problem buyer in one hundred sales, perhaps it's time to look at your own business practices.
Perhaps instead of single packets of cards at $3.50, you could offer 10 packets for $35 which might allow you to afford tracked shipping- or even include it in the asking price which sweetens the deal when you call that Free Shipping.

My Canada post sales rep told me yesterday that they have been advised that all USA mail/packages can expect 5-7 days additional delay on shipping due to a backlog.....hope buyers and ebay are taking this into account......

That explains why eBay's estimated delivery dates from Canada are sooner to all points below the border than for deliveries within Canada.
I keep forgetting, they did come through by adding an extra 3 days requirement before a case can be escalated to a claim in the Resolution Centre.
We can all feel good knowing eBay has our backs.
Thanks for throwing a bone, eventually (very eventually) delivery estimates always increased during labour disputes.
Delays, backlogs, disruptions... What's the difference?
The almighty buck speaks loudest.
May 13
"Hang tight, you should hear back from the seller soon
If you don't hear back or can't work something out with the seller, you can ask us to step in beginning May. 20."
No comment to date... I guess the seller has better things to do.
Me too.
