Julie, Please ask your huuby to request that your mom-in-law have a CT scan immediately!
If the stroke was caused by a blood clot, something can be done to possibly reverse the damage. -antiembolic therapy.
If it was caused by a broken blood vessel, prognosis is a bit dimmer. <>

Thanks, Ramona. When Mum was at her GP yesterday, they did schedule a CT for next week. Hopefully, now that she's been admitted, they will speed up the test.
The treatment has to be done within the first few hours of the stroke. That is why I am saying that he should insist that it be done immediately.

My own mom has had 3 strokes, the last one incapacitated her and she's been in a nursing home ever since (8 years now). The Lord is using this, my experience with strokes, to guide this family. I'm at "Mission Control" here. lol Gotta find a way to get there...going to phone some friends...will keep you posted...please keep prayer vigil going...thank you!

Oh Julie ...... 😞 Sending BIG HUGS out your way. We went through the same thing with my Dad when he started having strokes years ago. I was so relieved when he was finally admitted to hospital because I knew that at least he'd be safe there. He did live another 3 years after that in a nursing home and we had some good times with him before he passed.
Don't worry about your sister-in-law. Even though she has POA, there is no way the hospital will let your MIL go back home in the condition she's in. I think if two doctors agree that she's in danger if living alone, they would only send her home if the family can prove that she'll have nursing care & supervision 24/7. Will continue to pray for all of you and please keep up updated on her progress.

Just got home. Mum's been admitted...finally (after siting in ER for 10 hours...sheesh, me old bum is sore...lol).
They did a CT scan and x-rays. Turns out she had a small stroke; a "bleeder" in the brain that has apparently already stopped, so she's out of danger for now. Praise be to God! She was severely dehydrated. A couple days ago, she had flu-like symptoms and stopped eating (we didn't know this) because she was throwing up anything that went down. Now she's on fluid IVs and even ate some soup this afternoon (she loves my homemade cream o' mushroom). YAY! It's a start.
They are keeping her for a few days to watch her. The bad news is that she has a arterial (hear her heart) aneurism (disvoered when she fell a few months ago), which has grown a bit. It is a ticking timb bomb - the docs say an operation will take care of it, but the surgery may kill her, too, so it's kind of a lose/lose proposition. Mum won't do the surgery anyway, and now that's she's lucid once again, she's the boss.
