Good evening everyone. Hope everyone is enjoying their day - this day that God has given us.

I was thinking, studying and mediateing on the first mention of love found in the Bible this evening. It is found in Gen 22: 1 - 2. What an amazing example God chose to introduce the first mention of love. And what an amazing picture of the harmony between the Old and New Testaments. I looked on the internet for some additional thoughts by others and found the following web page which I believe would enrich anyone's thoughts on love and what God wants us to know.

Meditating is a term we use here when we are thinking on something from scripture and are enjoying it very much.

Good evening.

Andrew, I enjoyed meditating on Gen.22, the altar: a place of sacrifice altered by grace.

And in Chronicles, the threshing floor: a place of judgment tempered by mercy.

And in the new testament (Mt.27:33;Mr.15:22;Jn.19:17), Golgotha: a place of sacrifice and judgment which became the source of grace and mercy!!

But I was also thinking of the law of first mention.

In Gen.22, we see the love of a father for his son.

Notice the first mention of love in the new testament: Matt. 3:16,17. Heaven is opened for God to declare His love for His Son!!

Again, notice the first mention of love in Mark: Mr.1:10,11. Again, heaven is opened and God declares His love for His Son.

Then look for the first mention of love in Luke: Lu.3:21,22. For a third time we see God opening heaven to declare His love for His Son!!

Now look for the first mention of love in the "gospel of love", the gospel of John... Enjoy!!!

Thanks for posting that. I am enjoying that this evening.

Everything is so inter-woven in the most beautiful way.

The first mention in the first three Gospels...the declaration of God's love for His Well Beloved Son.
Three times the declaration is repeated to get our attention.
And then the declaration of love for unworthy sons...amazing!!!! The giving of One so absolutely worthy for many so unworthy.

God's greatest expression of love to us.

I also looked at the first mention of agapao in the four Gospels. That also has an interesting order. Second then first great commandment. Then the instructions to us ("to you which hear" spread over the next few verses). Then a warning. Had not looked at that before.

Hi Julie.

That was a cute email.....it brought a smile to my face...and has a lot of truth...

if you ask almost anyone if love is real they will say yes (even if their definition of love varies, but everyone will say it is real because they experience it in some way). Now ask those that depend on science to explain everything to define it in a mathmatical formula...or show that mathmatics is at its base. (this is a fundumental tenent of science - if it is real then it can be measured and put into a mathmatical formula or shown that mathmatics is at its base). I can do that even with languages. Now if you really want to see some eyes brows twist abit....ask them to put death into a mathmatical formula or show mathmatics as its base (actually can be done if approached in a proper way but most will not get it or if they do they must go against some basic principlals they try to uphold). Now ask them to do the same with life....
