Welcome to a place where Christ should be exalted and "Self" should be abased!!

Welcome to a place where the BIBLE can be discussed rationally, intelligently, and positively without unnecessary argument!!

Welcome to a place where prayer can be requested and encouraged!!

Welcome to a place where positive and encouraging thoughts from scripture can be shared in a caring and loving way!!

Welcome to a place away from all the arguments, recriminations, and negativity of the outside world!!

Welcome to a place of rest and safety!!

Welcome to a place where Philippians 2:3 is practiced: "Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves."

Welcome to this Christian thread.

(Please leave all aggression, bitterness, and philosophy outside the door and please wipe your feet before coming inside!!)

Hi Kitty, hope you're starting to feel better.

Jackie, what a beautiful story! It brought a tear to my eye when I read it.

Nellie, I'm so glad you enjoyed those books. They mean a lot to me too.

Sounds so regal!!! 🙂

Remember What Is Most Important.....

It's not having everything go right;
it's facing whatever goes wrong.

It's not being without fear,
it's having the determination to go on in spite of it.

It's not about where you stand,
but the direction you're going in.

It's more than never having bad moments;
it's knowing you are always bigger than the moment.

It's believing you have already been given everything you need to handle life.

It's not being able to rid the world of all its injustices;
it's being able to rise above them.

It's the belief in your heart that there will always be more good than bad in the world.

Remember to live just this one day
and not add tomorrow's troubles to today's load.
Remember that every day ends
and brings a new tomorrow full of exciting new things.
Love what you do, do the best you can, and always remember how much you are loved.
--V.M. Worsham

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Yesterday is past...learn from it, forget it; the future is not here yet...don't worry & fret about it; today is here...it's a gift - that's why it's called present...use it, enjoy it. (I'm paraphrasing...something to that effect:))

I am definitely getting better now Nellie and Lucie. I was told yesterday that I may have a cracked rib from the accident but I woke up today and it is not painful to breath today so I am extremely happy over that. <>

Great news Ramona! I guess when you're in as much pain as you were, every little bit of progress is a huge victory. Make sure you get lots of rest, that's the best medicine to heal you quickly.

Good to hear, Ramona.....so in keeping with that...here's a 'smile' for you - don't want you to bust out laughing and hurt your bruised rib.....:) Having sat through a few music committees and discussions on appropriate church music - I could so identify with the following...

Hymn versus Praise Songs

An old farmer went to the city one weekend and attended the big city church. He came home and his wife asked him how it was.

"Well," said the farmer, "it was good. They did something different, however. They sang praise choruses instead of hymns."

"Praise choruses?" said his wife. "What are those?" "Oh, they're OK. They are sort of like hymns, only different," said the farmer.

"Well, what's the difference?" asked his wife.

The farmer said, "Well, it's like this - If I were to say to you: "Martha, the cows are in the corn"' - well, that would be a hymn.

If on the other hand, I were to say to you: 'Martha, Martha, Martha, Oh Martha, MARTHA, MARTHA, the cows, the big cows, the brown cows, the black cows the white cows, the black and white cows, the COWS, COWS, COWS are in the corn, are in the corn, are in the corn, are in the corn, the CORN, CORN, CORN.'
Then, if I were to repeat the whole thing two or three times, well, that would be a praise chorus."

The next weekend, his nephew, a young, new Christian from the city came to visit and attended the local church of the small town. He went home and his mother asked him how it was.

"Well," said the young man, "it was good. They did something different however. They sang hymns instead of praise songs."

"Hymns?" asked his mother. "What are those?"

"Oh, they're OK. They are sort of like praise songs, only different," said the young man.

"Well, what's the difference?" asked his mother.

The young man said, "Well, it's like this - If I were to say to you: 'Martha, the cows are in the corn' - well, that would be a praise song. If on the other hand, I were to say to you:

'Oh Martha, dear Martha, hear thou my cry,
Inclinest thine ear to the words of my mouth!
Turn thou thy whole wondrous ear by and by to the righteous,
inimitable, glorious truth.
For the way of the animals, who can explain?
There in their heads is no shadow of sense.
Hearkenest they in God's sun or His rain.
Unless from the mild, tempting corn they are fenced.
Yea those cows in glad bovine, rebellious delight
Have broke free their shackles, their warm pens eschewed
Then goaded by minions of darkness and night
They all my mild Chilliwack sweet corn have chewed.
So look to the bright shining day by and by
Where all foul corruptions of earth are reborn
Where no vicious animals make my soul cry
And I no longer see those foul cows in the corn.'

Then, if I were to do only verses one, three and four and do a key change on the last verse, well that would be a hymn."

Hi Lucie--good to see you.

Christine--ANOTHER great day!

Hi Ramona, glad to see you up and about!

Hi! to everyone, sorry if I missed someone. I am in the middle of my cranberry sauce making, so I tried to do that part of the post by memory.

My guests arrive tomorrow early--I am so excited to see DS--it seems a very long time since I have seen him--and I really want to meet his new girlfriend.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING this Thursday to BRUCE, MLM and any other Americans who fly by.:-x

Hi everyone - just flying by !

Nellie - that is hilarious ! And so true -LOL - This dyed in the wool brought up Anglican was only very used to the typical Anglican hymns! My daughter and hubby go to a church where they sing more the praise choruses - with the words up on a big monitor - took us a while to get used to it !

Flying by here also....;-)

I was raised in a 'non-instrumental' church...no piano, no organ, no nothing....just pure voice.

I currently attend a church where there is a 'full band' used in worship...piano, synthesizer, guitar, bass guitar, drums, bongo, saxaphone and trumpet. I even sang in the choir for a few years. Let me tell you, that was an extremely difficult transition. The first few times I attended I could just picture my dad rolling in his grave.....and my poor mum when I would take her with me too!

Both are worship, both are uplifitng...it's what your heart is doing is what counts. :-x
