Welcome to a place where Christ should be exalted and "Self" should be abased!!

Welcome to a place where the BIBLE can be discussed rationally, intelligently, and positively without unnecessary argument!!

Welcome to a place where prayer can be requested and encouraged!!

Welcome to a place where positive and encouraging thoughts from scripture can be shared in a caring and loving way!!

Welcome to a place away from all the arguments, recriminations, and negativity of the outside world!!

Welcome to a place of rest and safety!!

Welcome to a place where Philippians 2:3 is practiced: "Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves."

Welcome to this Christian thread.

thank you for your prayers and responses.

In many ways I feel blessed that I recogonize the fact that I live with depression and seek help for it. I just came to the realization that "something was just not right" with me when I was about thirty. That was some time ago if you look at my ID! I openly admit and am not ashamed of it; it is part of my state of being. I am difficult to medicate but am also happy to say that I have been given access to a fine specialist who deals with people like me. I am going through a rough period that I know will pass. I pray to Christ for strength and for what he thinks I need. My husband is helpful and empathetic to my condition.

Believe it or not depression can teach you many good things, the very things that Christ teaches. Material goods do not heal, nor does a sophisticated life-style. When I am well I can see that I get a greater joy out of many of life's simple things that often get ignored by others - plants and flower, the weather, walking the dog and knitting.

I often have more concern for those who live with depression and do not want to recognize it and get help. I have a male friend whose state of depression is getting frightening. His behaviour is hostile and borders on violent. I beg him to go seek professional help and medication. But he won't. Out of concern, I took up his case with my own shrink and he calls this "cancer of the soul". I pray more for him and his partner than I do myself.

May God bless you all; just participating here is helping me.

Brake: One thing I have often heard said by people who have successfully come through a depression is that it was helpful for them to try to find something useful that they could for others around them, therefore shifting their focus towards others and temporarily allowing them to forget their own pain & suffering. If you have a special "gift" or talent that you can put to use by serving others, even in a small way, this will perhaps help you further along the road to recovery.

Hi brake, we've spoken quite often to each other on the help boards, but I didnt realize that you were dealing with such deep problems..

Just wanted to say, that you've found the right place here, and I also agree with the statement that if your pastor or priest tried to single you out, that you should get in touch with him..

there are millions out here who struggle but do not have a priest or pastor behind them to help pull them out.

good luck, and welcome

Squiddly: Good advice.

Good rule: Do something good for yourself every day and do something good for someone else every day. When you think about it, It amounts to doing only one thing!
I am feeling a wee bit better. I also have fibromyalgia and a sever case of "periodic limb movement disorder" and restless leg syndrome. Getting all the
'cross" medications working together properly, and at the same time trying to minimize the number of meds I take can be difficult, but I am moving along. It's just a matter of time before I'm up and running.

I thank everyone for their assistance. Susan

Good morning! Please pray for MIL today. FIL called her from hospital at 6 to ask her to bring him clothes. He thinks he's coming home today. Nurse says no way, he's coming home Thurs or Fri. He's going to be very disappointed when he finds out and will likely be a bit of a bear. ;-)

Awwwwwww...poor FIL. 😞

Jess, is he on morphine? I don't know if you remember, but a few months ago, my MIL fell and was hospitalized for 6 weeks. On morphine, she was incoherent and halluciated quite a bit. Oh, and cranky, too. VERY cranky. Your FIL just might be a bit "off" because of the morphine.

Hi Julie, I know he's not on morophine because that is what caused his almost attack on Thursday. Good point about the pain meds though. I'll mention it to Mum. Of course, if she gets down there and he is going home, he's going to be ticked she kept him waiting. I suggested she take his clothes down anyway, just in case. He would not be thrilled about going home in a hospital gown :^O

Good morning/afternoon to all,

A beautiful day on the west coast, hope it is the same where you are.

((((Jess)))) prayers for your MIl. Most of the cardiac wards are used to patients getting a little unruly. The nurses will probably get him to behave.
