Big Brother Canada Post

Greetings fellow Canadian Ebayers!

Today I went to the post office  to sent a couple of parcels out and I was told that from now on is compulsory to put all the information, mine and the addressee, into Canada Post website, including the content and value of the parcel, to get from that site some kind of sticker/bar code which I have to present back to the Post Office in order for them to accept my parcel.
This procedure presents a lot of questions for me.
I do not feel comfortable (neither my buyers, I am sure) to have all this information stored permanently into Canada Post data base. Do you want to have the whole history of your transactions (and personal information) available forever in a Government data base?
In spite of all the assurances, I do not consider their web site secure. There are more important sites that were hacked.
In my humble opinion, the customer should have the option to opt out of this procedure. You can not obliged the entire population to use the internet, to get a printer or to have a top of the line mobile phone and to accept the storage of personal information in one of the Government data base!
I called Canada Post today but their answer was typical, useless, that this is the new procedure and there is nothing they can do! They do not care, as most of the Government privileged employees!
No wonder that a parcel sent to Vancouver costs twice as much as the same one mailed to California.

I'm seeing more and More Problems with Canada Post lately,

Recently I sent a couple of Cards with Money in them..
Which didn't seem to arrive to my Brothers' at the Residential Care Facility.

Not to mention Parcels that don't seem to arrive. Even if they say they are Delivered/ Left Country of Origin.. and somehow Fall Off the Radar.

I've Mentioned before - I'd Love to set up a STING and have Sellers - Send some Parcels with Tracking Devices.. to find out where Exactly they are Getting Lost!
Whom does it Benefit.. Canada Post - if Sellers have to Charge Customers for Tracking and Mandatory Signatures.

Last year Canada Post went on Strike, and Held Peoples' Mail and Parcels Hostage - for Ransom....

One CP Employee argued with me that the Mail - belonged to Canada Post.. Which I Begged to Differ- and Told her it was Held by Canada Post in TRUST - to be Delivered to the Customers!

Like they don't make enough Money, and the Corporation is Not going Broke.. Yet; they still Raised Postage Rates!

____________________________________________________________

I've gone to the Post Office so many times.. and there's been nothing there.

Here's My Dragon's Den Idea:

Why not have a Mail Notification System, at the Post Office

They Push Open a Lid to put something in your Mailbox -/Push a Button - Or a Censor Detects Something; and Sends a Notification to your Email or Smart Phone=

BLING- You've Got Mail!

Think of How Many Needless Trips that could Eliminate!

Or Possibly Calls to the Post Office to see if something is there?

It might also eliminate some FALSE DELIVERIES!

Hello @corcodus ,

Were these packages being shipped in Canada or down to the States? If they are US or International, they have required a declaration of contents and value for customs forever. Same applies to anything shipped from another country to Canada. As for noting the contents on Canadian shipments that would be to confirm there is nothing hazardous or dangerous in the package. Specific contents would be a new one on me.

@corcodus

Your statement above seems to suggest that the parcels that you brought in that require information to be submitted online were to be delivered in Canada?

I haven't heard anything about domestic parcels requiring that information....were the parcels for Canada or international?

International packages have always required some sort of info to be put on the package but now I believe they are requiring the info to be filled out online.  I think that the majority of sellers buy and print their labels online so all of the customs info is entered at the same time so in that situation, the new regulations don't cause any extra work.   That also saves the extra step of having to purchase the label at the counter.

assuming this is for export... this data was always collected. CBSA, Stats,  and Industry Canada (along with others) use the aggregate info for a lot of different things from policy decisions to tariff treatment.   This info has been submitted electronically by couriers for years, Canada Post (a Crown Corp... not a government agency btw) has been behind on this, and submitted info manually until recently.  Or more probably, a lot of info was skipped to keep up with the increased parcel volume in the last 10-15 years with the exponential rise of e-commerce..   They're finally gettin' with the times and using the ol' nerd box to speed things up.

FWIW you need an individuals Social Insurance number to send high-value items to the USA... nothing new.

If you don't want to be explicit about what is in the package you can use the HS code instead.

That tells the destination country's customs department what the dutiable rate will be (the codes are international) without being specific about what it is.

For example if you were shipping a New with Tags designer dress valued at $1500  the label could read "dress 6204.49 " and the selling price.

You can change the wording. The default is the eBay title. I've done this when shipping problematical books to countries with harsh dictatorships.

Never lie about the selling price because if you have to make a Claim, or if a bored customs officer decides that the price is too low for the item, you and your customer could run into problems.

I worked in the public service for many years.

"Available" is not how I would describe the filing system.

I use stamps and do not print out labels . But even over the counter, I have to use a customs declaration form if the shipment is leaving the country.

In spite of your concerns, what Canada Post has on record is exactly what you see on your receipt.

...what are you going to do when you get your Government Issued "Basic Income" debit card or app, it will be your choice...

...And everything you purchase will be fully tracked. And it will all be done in Crypto.

Here in Quebec, I am "testing" the new App for our Health Care - OPAL you should see that!

http://opalmedapps.com/awardDetails

Here in Quebec, the goal is to have all EVERY single Citizen issued a "Digital" profile for all gov service by the end of 2021.

It's a little too late for your tinfoil hat "story", COVID19 was the perfect storm to push AGENDA21 into fast forward, ask Justin!

Policy Resolution 100 been on the Liberal.ca site since 2014

now, it's at the top of the list, folks.

A "budget" has already been made as to the costs of a Basic Income for everyone in Canada if one had to be implemented this winter, they also listed all the "Tax Credits" that would be cut, mostly for the "Middle Class"...

https://www.pbo-dpb.gc.ca/en/blog/news/RP-2021-014-M--costing-guaranteed-basic-income-during-covid-p...

The "Middle Class" is the target in all this, not the poor! They need to "hollow" out the middle class...

...everyone knows the working poor need more money, and will be used to "justify" a UBI
