Health officials announce ‘presumptive’ case of coronavirus in Toronto

https://globalnews.ca/news/6462626/coronavirus-toronto-hospital/

I'm not here to spread panic, but I would strongly advise everybody, be it the Wuhan virus or the common cold/flu virus, the BEST way to protect yourselves and your loved ones is frequent and diligent handwashing (with soap and water, or hand sanitizer), and to wear a surgical mask (if you can still find them). Cover your mouth and nose by sneezing into your elbow (not your hands!), or if you used your hands then wash them as soon as possible before you touch anything else.

If you recently traveled back from high risk countries with confirmed Wulan Coronavirus (such as China), please isolate yourself at home, for 14 days if possible, as that's the incubation period of the virus. The symptoms quite vary with this virus, not everybody would present with a fever and some people stay asymptomatic. Avoid crowded areas, and wear a medical grade surgical mask if possible. Part of the reason why the numbers skyrocketed recently is because of the long incubation period; people who thought they weren't sick and didn't take precautions, ended up being sick. One doctor already died in China from this virus, and thousands (actual number is probably way more) infected.

Re: coronavirus COVID-19 news

Wuhan second wave testing numbers: 9.9 million people tested with around 300 cases detected. How to test more people with limited resources, do 5-10 people per test, if test is positive, then test each person in the group individually.

Keeping borders with the USA restricted until end of July is not a bad choice.

Hope for the seriously ill: Dexamethasone cuts the risk of death by a third for patients on ventilators. For those on oxygen, it cut deaths by 20 percent. For a treatment cost under $10/day. https://www.bbc.com/news/health-53061281

My extended family had the annual family picnic in late June.

It was a Zoom affair, no travel or close contact involved.

Re: coronavirus COVID-19 news

China can say whatever they want and I'd not believe their numbers. Even now they are still claiming that the CCP virus didn't originate from China. I don't even remember what COVID actually stands for, to me, it's always gonna be China Output Virus in December.

BC is looking like an incoming second wave happening. The long weekend is almost over, I worked Thursday to Saturday and stayed home Sunday and today. Interesting to see if we'd see a bigger spike in the upcoming week. More people going out and most of them not wearing a mask. My workplace (indoor!) doesn't require visitors to wear a mask (staff do wear one)... so I'm just reeeeeeaaaaaally hoping that none of our visitors would be in contact with asymptomatic carriers.

The study of blood samples shows an infection rate about 4 times the official rate. The samples came from all blood tests for the month of June versus blood tests for covid-19.

In my area of Ontario, most people do wear masks when shopping. Outdoors, many do not wear masks but most apply social distancing instead.
