Ottawa Area Comic Book Shop burglarized- Selling on eBay?

Wonderful to come in on my day off to this idiot’s handywork from a smash and grab from early this morning. Items taken were some wall books - early Eternals #1,2,3,4, Man Bat #1, 2001 a Space Odyssey #1, Batman Hush statue, Deadpool Gallery Statue, Carnage Gallery Statue and 2 Mandalorian with child pop vinyls 2 pack sets. More to reveal once I figure out whatever else there was and clean this place up... 😡

Ottawa Area Comic Book Shop burglarized- Selling on eBay?

I have never really dealt in comic books and don't really understand the in and outs of them but at times I seem to fall into them.  When I do  they are usually good ones.   Upsets the Comic Book Dealers in my area when I get them. They actively look  and I fall into them

One of the best items I got was at a auction.   5 1940's Detective Comics for $50.00.  Last minute bid thought cannot go wrong with them at the price.  Got these early on in the Auction. Not much interest in the items coming up so started reading one.  *blush  I disrupted the Auction when I realized what I had.   Reading it Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson were at a event walked by a guy and Wayne said "He looks like a Penguin"  BINGO!  It was the intro of The Penguin.  I raised my Voice and went "blankety blank blank!" That stopped the bidding and the whole place broke up. The auctioneer asked "what did I sell you"? I told him and he and a few other members of the Audience looked sick.

Sold about a month later to a 10 year old for a ridiculously high price.  Not in great condition it was still up there.  The kid walked in one day asked if he could see it. Let him and he asked the price. Told him and he asked if I would hold it for him til Saturday. Looked at his Dad and he said "he is good for it"  sure enough they were waiting for me when I got to the store. Handed me the cash and was thrilled.  His Dad told me he knew nothing about them but his son did  had his own money to spend and was well known in the collecting field. Told me he could have paid for it the first day but was teaching his son about responsibility.

Good for him. Me? I was just thrilled at what I got for it. I really wondered if I was on base with my asking price. I was

The Stolen items could end up on ebay or the net  for sale. I know folk who have had theft and discovered the items there but there is a possibility they wont and wont be seen again.

Depends who broke in and stole the items.  Could be someone who knew what they were looking for and make money selling them but it could also be someone who just did a smash and grab  to get the items  to keep or  dispose of quickly for what ever amount. Maybe someone who has a addiction or in the need of money and will dispose of these for any amount they can  get

I have only been in one place where a Break in took place. A market I used to do  that was only open on Sundays.   This place had a variety of items  for sale by individual vendors. Ranged from Brand new items to collectibles to Antiques

What they stole was bizarre considering the wide range of items there

They stole Toilet Paper

A guy who had a booth there selling this and  was wiped out (pardon the pun)  Nothing else was taken

Have had theft in a store I had . Lost 5 items totaling about $1100.00.  This occurred when it was open   Fortunately I got them back.

I was in a place with a few other People. We had a A Frame that was used as a store and a 5000 square foot warehouse

I was away for a day  and it was open  and apparently busy.   A friend sold Antique Furniture there.  Had a Repeat customer in who purchased 7 or 8 pieces of furniture.

He phoned me that night and asked if I could help him with the delivery of them the next day to which I said I would.  Went in the next morning and went straight to my area in The A Frame. Right of the bat noticed a few pieces missing.  Searching around discovered 5 pieces gone.

Was not impressed but we had to do the delivery about an hour away so decided I would deal with it when I got back

This guy was a dealer and when I walked into his place there were items on a Table labelled with a sign "Just Picked". They were the ones I was missing. While not one of a kind hard to find and knew they were mne

Did not miss a beat I walked over to the table  with the guy watching and said to my Friend " Look  there are my missing pieces. They must have gone on a Tour".  Picked them up and took them back to the Truck. Guy did not say a word then he knew he was caught. My friend recognized the pieces too, he knew my stock well

Told me after if the guy had not paid for them the day before he would have left  without completing the deal but since he had we unloaded them in the driveway and left. While doing this the guy apologized to me for doing so

I did not say a word, knew better I was furious and did not trust myself with the response I would have given him.   His explanation floored me.  He said he figured since he had spent about $4000.00 on the furniture he figured he was due a few freebies.

If you counted the guys IQ you could have done it on one hand and not used your fingers. Silly enough to steal the items  sillier still he had them on display when we arrived.

Left with little conversation.   Decided not to pursue it further. Got the items back  and really did not want the hassle of dealing with the Police.  The guy never showed up again. Like we would have Welcomed him back

Ottawa Area Comic Book Shop burglarized- Selling on eBay?

There are several "comic book" stores in Ottawa and it is surprising how expensive the figurines can be, especially new in box.

Since specific titles were also stolen, the thief knew what was the good stuff.

Most comic stores are very crowded. At a guess it's a mixture of an owner with hoarding tendencies (like almost every seller here LOL), high B&M rents, and a register that is ringing up many low value sales.

I was in my favourite shop  here in Victoria a few weeks ago to pick up a single comic ($5.99) and asked if a hardcover anthology had also come in. They hadn't put it aside for me because at $29.99 they didn't think I would want it.  $30.00 is pretty standard for any text hardcover, or even higher, and it's hard for me to leave a bookstore with an intact $100 bill.

I really don't understand the economics of the comic book industry.

Ottawa Area Comic Book Shop burglarized- Selling on eBay?

As a 9 or 10 year old in the mid 60's I held my first Yard Sale.  Sold my comic Book Collection. Had  about 1000 of them. Batman, Superman  Justice League of America The Flash Green Lantern Archie & Jughead Horror Comics etc.  Never got into Spiderman or Marvel Comics not sure why.

Boy did I make good money!  Sold all of them that day. Averaged 5 cents a piece. :>-

Still Remember what I did with my Windfall. I was Rich!

We had a Cottage up at Wasaga Beach. Spent the Summers there. Went there The evening of the Last day of School and stayed til Labor Day.  Spent my time and money at 2 places.   A Trailer Park /Camp Ground  near us That had a Store with Pinball Machines one could use and The Arcades and Amusement Park Rides at Wasaga Beach proper.  It couldn't have been Better!

Look back at what comics I had and sold  that day.  Who would have thunk at that age and time what would happen with Comic Books

Hi @femmefan1946 - sorry to be hit and miss these last few weeks!* I wanted to chime in here in case you (or anyone reading this in the future) needs help with stolen merchandise ending up on the site.

We work with law enforcement directly in situations like this. If this owner finds anything of theirs on any eBay site this is the page to give them. In my experience the Asset Protection is motivated, quick to act and works very well with officers (so they tend to be more likely to work with us as silly as that sounds). Thanks!
