When PayPal does a credit check... do they just perform an inquiry or do they actually request a credit report from the credit bureau?

Reply to post below: This doesn't really provide the confidence that I need because I don't see any legal provision to ensure I cannot be abused by PayPal sometime in the future. The stories about PayPal customer service in times of dispute is exactly why I'm concerned. Just telling me doesn't give me enough confidence to feel safe. If you don't answer that's OK because I suspect there's no way for you to answer this effectively. There would need to be something in the member to assure me of this, and I doubt there is any such provision. Thanks anyway.

Hi graphiglobe

I regards to post #15

Paypal has a User Agreement in place that sets obligations and standards of conduct for interactions with the community. As our UA states, “PayPal will never make transfers from your bank account without your authorization.” Basically, we are legally bound to abide by such User Agreement conditions.

But you have that authorization the second we sign up for automatic transfers from our bank accounts. It's set up the same as pre-authorized payments. So really, there is nothing to prevent you from theoretically cleaning out a bank account if you feel we owe you that money. Because we have already authorized you to do so.

Hello,

I sell my products in U.S. dollars and thus have a U.S. dollar Paypal account. I want to be able to withdraw my U.S.$ funds to a U.S.$ bank account located at a Canadian bank in Canada.

I haven't found a way to do this through Paypal. First, Paypal must convert the funds to Cdn$.

My understanding is that Paypal will only allow this if the bank is located in the U.S.

I cannot set up a U.S.$ bank in the U.S. - only in Canada.

Please let me know if this is something Paypal will fix soon as I wish to keep my funds in U.S. currency.

Thanks for your help!

PayPal is focussed on portraying good customer service and support now as it tries to attract more and more people to use the service and feed PayPal's bottom line. Let us always be honest here... PayPal was set up to make money selling a service... not set up to provide a service. As it is many eBay sellers are using PayPal and not offering alternatives to buyers... what assurances do members have that once PayPal has reached essential status the fees won't resemble banking institution extortion rates? and the actual service declines as people won't have any choice or option?

That's helpful. I'll review the user agreement again. Maybe you just answered my question. As I said, I would like to use PayPal to its fullest extent, so if I could be confident that I won't be a victim of financial abuse down the road, then I'll move forward in maximizing PayPal services. Thanks!

Hi jesdifa,

In answer to you first question:

Currently credit card is the only way to confirm your address on PayPal, but we are working on alternative methods for address confirmation.

who owns PayPal and what is the value of their assets? Is it possible that PayPal will be bought and its rates and policies altered by the new owners?

Hi pleasedonotcheatme,

Paypal employees are subject to strict internal controls. PayPal is audited frequently by external organizations to ensure that we continue to adhere to the highest standards of internal conduct.

sydney*5 : if you have a royal bank account, you can sign up for a Centura account which is exactly what you are looking for. RBC Centura is a bank with branches physically located in the US. They are owned by Royal Bank. Once the US$ is transferred from your Paypal account to your Centura account, you can instantly transfer your funds to your RBC canadian account and have access to the funds that way. Or you can leave them as a US balance in your Centura account.

This is a good point. This may actually make your reply to me (post 22) a mute point. I'm very interested in the response to post 23.

I worked for a company while in university and it had the highest standards imaginable and yet an employee was compromised and her actions were not traced or discovered until after she left... she was actively mining for over a year... left... and her actions weren't discovered for another 18 months. Can PayPal assure that they aren't vulnerable to this?

eBay owns it and I would be surprised if they didn't alter the rates some more.

Hi sydney*5,

Our systems currently only support withdrawals to local bank accounts in local currency. This is the same for all our users globally. For example, withdrawals to US bank accounts can only be done in USD, withdrawals to UK bank accounts can only be done in GBP, etc.

What you can do today is add a US-based bank account and withdraw USD to that account. We are not able to recommend particular banks. However, we recommend that you check FDIC's website. They do not endorse any particular banks, but provide listings and U.S. bank information. You can access this website at http://www.fdic.gov/. This will provide you with the information you need to make your own informed decision about the best U.S. bank for your particular needs.

Is it true that, as a seller, one does not have the PayPal Buyer Protection when shipping to a Canadian Verified Account? If so, when will that be rectified?

Forgive me if I have terms jumbled. Joined late and wanted to post this question.

Hello,

Further to my question about U.S. currency. This is the response I got when I sent an email to Paypal. It didn't really address my question.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Dear (removed),
Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your concerns. I am happy
to assist you further.
If a currency conversion needs to be made when a withdrawal is requested,
the exchange rate for the conversion will be posted on the 'Withdraw Funds
Confirmation' page at the time the withdrawal is requested.
We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this matter, and
wish you continued success on PayPal.
Sincerely,
Thank you in advance for any clarification you can provide.
Hi jesdifa,
PayPal requires a specific user request for each transfer from or to your bank account. Attaching a bank account to your PayPal account does not give us blanket authorization to make transfers.
