Canadian tax

This is not right
EBay has no right to collect taxes on used goods
I sell a few hockey cards a year
I lost as much as I have made
Now I lose 13 percent
Just sad

Canadian tax

EBay is required to do it by law.
You know that the buyer pays the tax, not the seller?  The percentage will be based on the buyer's  location.

Your buyer paid the sales taxes.

EBay collected them and remitted them to the appropriate governments.

You pay final value fees (FVF) on the total payment your customer sent.

This includes appropriate taxes.

So you are paying a percentage of a percentage.

If your customer is in Alberta and you sell a $10 card with $1 shipping, he will be billed $11.55.

You will pay $1.78 in fees (there is a 30c non-refundable service fee in there).

As to taxes on used goods, since you have never purchased a used car, here is a cash register tape from my local Sally Ann.thrift store receipt 1.jpeg

BTW - you do realize that for well over two years you have been paying eBay fees on US Internet (state) sales taxes, right?

They are not even our country.

  • C $450.00
  • or Best Offer
  • Free shipping

That's a fair bit of TAX on $450.00, helps pay for your OAP, Health Care, Child Benefits(you know the Basic Income for children you get for having babies), GIS, and a whole slew of other "Welfare State" benefits which I am sure you profit from...

...BTW Used items were always taxable.

And you do not pay the tax, your Buyer does, and if that Buyer can afford $450.00 for a Hockey Card, he can also afford to use some of that "disposable" income to pay his taxes.
