Filing gst hst taxes - the correct way

Hi guys,

Does anyone have experience on how one should file their gst hst taxes as a registered business that has to report annually

1) Do we even use the total sales from eBay on our revenue line?

2) I completely understand that the gst hst is collected and held and then remitted by eBay to their own gst account with cra

Please advise -

Ps I do work with a CPA when filing my taxes

Since you are registered for GST, have you authorized eBay to collect the tax on your behalf ?

Step 1: Enter revenue from eBay sales on Line 101 ("Sales and other revenue").

Step 2: If all your sales were eBay sales, enter '0.00' on Line 103 ("GST/HST collected or that became collectible in the reporting period")

Step 3: Enter the GST/HST you paid on your inputs on Line 106 ("ITCs for the current period and unclaimed ITCs from a previous period")

Step 4: In two or three weeks, expect to receive a nice cheque for the amount on Line 106.

Your accountant probably knows more about it than any of us do. You should ignore anything we say since we're not tax professionals.

That said, I don't think you should be liable for any taxes prior to you getting your GST number.  After you got it, it might depend on whether or not eBay backdates the form for you. How you should proceed on that isn't something I can offer any suggestions for.
