taxes

I am not against this move. It will actually simplify things. However if I am from Quebec only 5% should be charged. especially to AB. and BC. and now when we buy shipping labels on eBay we are being charged taxes. Are they going to do the math and put these taxes on the minus column of the declaration since shipping is an expense? I believe this question can only be answered by a knowledgeable eBay representative. Again I am not against this move.

My understanding from the email is that eBay sales will be subject to provincial as well as federal taxes.  AB sales will get hit with only 5% GST charges, but sales to BC, QC and MB buyers will be subject to PST/QST/RST as well as GST.

Hey @althecrystaldigger! The tax team says:

Canadian buyers located in Quebec will pay the combined rate of tax of 14.975% (5% GST and 9.975% PST) on items delivered from within Canada. Purchasers located in Alberta will pay 5% GST. Purchasers located in British Columbia will pay 12% (5% GST and 7% PST). Note that the tax is collected from the buyers and remitted monthly by eBay to the relevant (government or taxation) agency.

The question about declaration only applies to imports/exports from Canada and the GST/HST/QST/PST would not be collected by eBay on imports of physical goods from outside Canada.

velvet@ebay The second part of the answer the tax team provided does not make any sense with regard to what I'm reading was asked in OP's initial post. There was no mention of importing goods from outside Canada... To me it seems they were asking about how input tax credits would work if ebay is collecting, as they're arguing the tax charged on shipping labels from ebay is an expense and an input tax credit for them when they are collecting/remitting taxes themselves.

Re: taxes

What will be the percentage for the tax charged for buyers in Manitoba and Saskatchewan?

The percentage has been noted for British Columbia, Alberta and Quebec .....

But .... not .... for Manitoba and Saskatchewan...

and ... Also.... not for Yukon,  North West Territories and Nunavut

These provinces  and northern territories do not have HST

Neither does BC.

We even had an election about that.

So as velvet@ebay  says

Purchasers located in British Columbia will pay 12% (5% GST and 7% PST).

I think we can assume the same system will be followed for  other non-HST entities.

Re: taxes

We were told by the CRA many years ago when we started collecting taxes that the amount of tax you charge is tot he province the items are going to . SO if you are selling from QC to BC, you are supposed to be charging gst and pst.
