500 pixels requirement for pictures

The 500 pixels requirement for pictures is absolutely ridiculous!!! I can resize my picture with paint but the picture no longer looks good or clear; however it's accepted by ebay for my posting?! How's is this suppose to help us selling?

Since you seem to take your own pictures when I view your listings, why can't you just take larger pictures to meet the minimum requirements of 500 pixels. Cameras for the past 10 years easily take pictures of 500 pixels or more. I see this as a non-issue.

500 pixels for the longest side of the photo  is the minimum acceptable size...

I take photos in the range of 1000 pixel width/Height   and more

All of my photos are color corrected  and cropped to the "right width and height"

No problems  as long as the width or height is over 500 pixels....

Photos  are always checked for size before being added to a listing... as in a new listing or a revision.

I take my pictures and upload directly to eBay. Never had a problem. I stopped using hosting 2 1/2 years ago.

Most of my items are flat and are better scanned than photographed.

Most are scanned at 300 dpi, but my collectible stamps are scanned at 600 dpi.

I also prepare scans at 300 dpi.

Scans are an easy way to add important information about a book and the contents of a book to a listing.

Some adjustment is required with photo-editing software, before the scans are added to a listing.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

.Booksellers do use scanners  to prepare "photos" of books they list on eBay.

Scans do not work well on large ... oversize for a scanner.....  books.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is my choice to use a camera to prepare photos of books... the front cover and other images..... perfect for those larger than scanner books.

Scanners are for presenting the Table of Contents....

A camera is preferred because I learned photography with a camera before the digital age.

and... I loved it.....  It was playing with color, composition  and creating an artistic image of  something.....

500 pixels requirement for pictures

1600 pixels has been the recommended size for some time now. 500 pixels at 72 dpi is far too tiny for a detailed look at most items IMHO anyway so really if you want to give yourself the best possible chance of making sales and not doing anything to hinder yourself, adding larger photos should be something you WANT to do.

Cheers,
