I had noticed a decrease in my Canadian sales so I thought I would look up some of my items in the search lists.
To my shock and utter dismay all of my listings is search results were coming up with a 17 dollar and change shipping cost. when I clicked in the listing however the right shipping cost was there but in search results using price & shipping lowest first it puts us beneath gsp sellers from the states. Is this deliberate? sure seems like it to me.
Then I checked other Canadian sellers with and without stores using calculated shipping and buy it now and they have the same thing happening to them.
I have also noticed that american sellers who are not using gsp are showing up in .ca as shipping not specified but again they are showing up above Canadian sellers.
The only sellers with the correct shipping costs in search results lists are those that offer free shipping, fixed price shipping and auctions. Oh ya and americans using gsp.
Comments Anyone????

Thank you VERY-VERY MUCH!
I have attended all of these items and corrected them.
In regards to two items when the EXPRESS shipping appears as first I am not sure if this is my fault - I think I understand the display and for this reason I am assigning the EXPEDITED shipping as the first option...
But we never know what kind of surprises eBay can make to us especially with their sophisticated programming and testing
I will attend all my books that are with weights over 1 kg and will redo the shipping costs (right or wrong)
One more question: how are you able to find these incorrect shipping costs for USA and overseas?
When I make a search by price + shipping HIGHEST FIRST I am getting displays only for Canada (my postal code).
Thanks again!

@Anonymous wrote:Mr. Elmwood: How do you KNOW if our placement in search is very high? Thanks.
I do searches for items I am selling. A few months back I was doing okay in placement. Since I have been anointed with TOP seller status my placings in search are higher.
Yes, I know, cookies store info, etc.
The fewer the defects I incur, the higher my placing seems to be going.

Further to my previous question regarding the guidance for search, please know that I have located a little window with drop down menu which displays different countries and played a little to learn it...
Your assistance gave me proper direction!
Thank you again.

You all are lucky. I've had my Canadian listings suddenly showing Free Shipping, or shipping for $0.53... When I call called about it, I was told oh well, and was informed to ship as the listing shows. The crazy thing is, I list showing the proper amount of shipping, not free, and definitely not $0.53 and it's a glitch that changes it, but I still have to eat the loss.

"The crazy thing is, I list showing the proper amount of shipping, not free,"
???
I checked one item (stamps)
The listing clearly shows FREE SHIPPING to both Canada and the USA
No shipping charge specified for other countries (that may be part of the problem).

Further to our discussion about SHIPPING FLAWS on my site I have attended all HEAVY WEIGHTS and amended shipping options in proper order (SURFACE first and then AIRMAIL)... While in the mood for proper actions I eagerly added the "small packet with tracking" options where was applicable... And shortly after (while still proud of myself) have noticed that eBay shows this most expensive options as a first choice...
We have very popular Russian saying "We tried our best, but it turned out as always..."
Exactly my case... So I had to go back and to delete all options small packet with tracking.
Therefore I recommend to all sellers to be very cautious with such an option, recheck your listings if you used it among other options.

I took a look at some of your listings and I am a bit confused by the choice of postal service.
1870 WORKS OF NATURE’S TESTERS AT IMPERIAL KHARKOV UNIVERSITY in Russian, illus
Shows Canada Post Parcel for US$ 5 within Canada. I would expect that would qualify for lettermail.
Then I see US$ 40.41 overseas for Small Packet Air as the only shipping auction. Why not use Light Packet at a cost of Cdn$ 19.12 ? One would think it may be more interesting for foreign buyers.

Thank you very much, Pierre, for your so valuable note:
I have attended this item and corrected the international shipping there (removing the tracked package).
This time it was not there intentionally...
When my children were teenagers they used to tease me in cases like this "cheap drugs, Mom?"
And in regards to Canadian option as parcel, it is the intentional entry - with all protective cartons for proper packing I will not be able to stay under 2 cm of height.
Thank you again.

You may want to look into corrugated plastic for protection in the postal systems while keeping your envelopes within the 20mm thickness
Most corrugated plastic is available in 4mm thickness. Generally used for outdoor (election) signs but perfect for mailing.
It comes under different trade names but is usually available from artist supplies or building supplies stores at $20 or so for a 4'x8' sheet ($0.35 for a 8"x10" piece after cutting the sheet). I have used it for fifteen years and never had a complaint.
It is light and sturdy saving money in shipping costs.

Do you have an item number where it shows shipping as .53? I checked quite a few of your current and completed listings and couldn't find a listing like that. Some of your listings do show free shipping so it would be helpful if you could give an item number of a listing that shows free shipping but should not have free shipping.
Many of your listings show that you are using USPS first class to ship and unless you or someone else is shipping your Canadian orders from the U.S....that is misleading. When you list on .com you should use the category standard, economy or expedited int'l shipping for shipping to Canada or other countries.

Because they didn't even know there was a difference?? It happens.

This might not be a glitch, but ebay testing out a new system of showing a random choice of shipping options in the search listings. My listings seem to show a random choice, anyway: sometimes free, sometimes the absolute highest expedited, sometimes in between. http://www.ebay.ca/sch/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_ssn=atxpoint1&_sop=15
In Catalog searches, the results are usually worse, almost always showing the highest possible shipping cost, for example: http://www.ebay.ca/ctg/Final-Fantasy-VII-PlayStation-1997-/170245612?_tab=1&_trksid=p2047675.l2644 (click the Good tab, furthest down on Buy It Now listings)
I need to thank all of you who have called ebay to address this issue. I don't know if I have the patience to try that anymore.. But we should all keep persisting until they actually fix this.

As far as I know, today is the first time that anyone (you and other seller) has mentioned that the shipping option being show in the search view is not always the first one listed. We should watch to see if it is a continuing problem.

There was a problem with how calculated shipping was showing in the search view. It would show more than the actual shipping amount on the listing. Some of my items ship for about $8 within Alberta but if you saw those same items in search view, shipping was showing at $15.

Interesting case on this subject, but this time with US seller:
please make the advanced search in books asking for Signed Nila Magidoff, Russian and you will get the item for $6.44 Cdn with
$8.59 Cdn for BIN and shipping cost is shown as $14.74...
But then please press the item or even add it to your basket and you will see the shipping cost as $18.97.
Hope I am right to presume that we all (Canadian users) will see the same numbers while eBay.ca.
What is your opinion about this flaw ?
