First time seller here...
Is it better to let him pay with Paypal (the only form of payment for my item)? In that case, is it possible to change the amount to not include the shipping cost before he makes his payment?
Or can I accept cash? In that case, do I have to do something to register the payment?
Thanks.

do not accept paypal for customer pickup. You have no protection for item not received. For picup, cash only, nothing else.Do not make any exceptions.

I do this once and a while - I meet them at Tim Horons. I think it is safer. It has never been a problem.

Please do not invite the buyer to your home. Instead of using your time to mail the item you will be waiting at home for the buyer to show up. Your waiting time is valuable. What if the buyer does not show up? Do you make a dollar or 2 on your S&H charge? If you invite the buyer to your home have one or two friends with you when they arrive.

You can accept PayPal but mostly people pay with cash at pick-up.
To re-invoice, go to My eBay, the pull down on the left will give you the option to send an invoice (if you want), change the shipping service to Local Pick-Up at $0.00.

There is NO Buyer Protection for orders paid with PayPal and picked up in person. No Buyer Protection means that Seller Protection is not needed. Even if your buyer uses cash you want to re-invoice with zero shipping charge or eBay will be taking a cut of the shipping amount you didn't charge.
There is one advantage to taking PayPal on a pick-up order, YOU have the money and the buyer must come when YOU want them to come, if they don`t show up YOU still have the money!
