Canada Post Expedited Lite Rate

Is there an issue with Canada Post rates through eBay Labels? I went to buy a label this morning and my expedited lite rate was higher that what Ebay has calculated and collected from the buyer, they collect $6.47 and charge me $8.20 to print the label

Re: Canada Post Expedited Lite Rate

I'm still experiencing the issue! I actually lowered my shipping prices recently to better reflect the cost of expedited lite. I am charging $6.50 shipping for some items and tis week I am seeing as high as $11.50.

- Maybe the discount expired and these are the new Expedited Lite rates permanently

The 70%+ Canada Post discounted rates we were seeing may have now ended.  Those were still available for 2 orders I mailed Nov. 28 ... but not for an order received Nov 30.

The current Canada Post discounted rates available through ebay still provide a savings vs. Canada Post's counter rates ... just not at as much as we had been seeing.

Example ... for an order received this morning from a GTA customer:

Tracked shipping (both Expedited Lite and Expedited Parcel) was available through Ebay Labels for  $11.11 (a 56% discount).  That's about $4 more than a similar mid-Nov. order from another GTA customer.

Using "Find a Rate" on Canada Post's website showed the "undiscounted" cost of sending the order from CowTown via Expedited Parcel would be $25.30 ($18.20 + $4.91 fuel surcharge + $2.91 Ontario HST).

The $11.11 available through Ebay Labels was, as indicated, a 56% discount vs. Canada Post's counter rate.

Re: Canada Post Expedited Lite Rate

eBay has the eIS webinar tomorrow. Hopefully they'll also answer questions about what's going on with Expedited Lite.

Re: Canada Post Expedited Lite Rate

Yes it should be communicated to us. We are the ones paying for the labels. If the discount is expiring, why would we not receive a communication saying that the discount is expiring as of whatever date. I think it is a very reasonable expectation. Many sellers price items relying on the discounted Expedited Lite rates. With no knowledge or communication of the discount expiring, how would we know to adjust our prices before the discount expires?

If we started getting billed an extra 5-10% on final value fees for all categories tommorrow, with no communication about the fee change, would your attitude be the same? Would we deserve an heads up in that case?

Re: Canada Post Expedited Lite Rate

I can confirm that Canada Post does not have (and to my knowledge, never has) any sort of "holiday surge pricing". The only thing that changes during the holidays is that delivery guarantees get extended (irrelevant this year since all guarantees are still suspended), and there is an increase on on the surcharge for oversize parcels.

The overnight 40+% increase on Expedited Lite labels is either because eBay lost their agreement with Canada Post on such shipments; or they are currently experiencing some sort of billing/rate glitch with eBay Labels (not impossible as we know they're tinkering behind the scenes with the recently announced decreased rates to the eIS hub). I can't think of another reason here.

That being said the silence is deafening. eBay needs to communicate with it's sellers as to what's going on here. I am once again tagging devon@ebay for any updates.

Don't bother reaching out to the customer service representatives on the phone or chat - they can't do anything and likely don't even understand the situation. Everyone affected by this (or any label billing discrepencies) should be emailing ebaylabels@ebay.ca to report the issues - you may not get a response but they need to understand the severity of what's going on. I would also recommend cc'ing lubradley@ebay.ca (Luke Bradley is the Shipping and Operations Manager for eBay Canada).

Thank you for being a voice of reason. All we are asking for is some proper communication.

Something I noticed, since we're left wondering what's going on...

They removed the starting base rates for Toronto examples from the Lite information page at some point since September:

Old: https://web.archive.org/web/20250925152956/https://www.ebay.ca/sellercentre/shipping/ebay-labels/can...

Re: Canada Post Expedited Lite Rate

just because something "should" be communicated doesn't make it happen...and as I have already stated>>" there was no announcement from Etsy/no "warning" and Canadian Etsy sellers were never given any explanation, for that change in the discounted rates..." We Canadian sellers on Etsy discovered the change in discount "by accident" when we were processing shipping labels... and since I have already stated this experience from my other selling site, my "attitude" would be no different>>>Of course it was a surprise, of course it was a shock, of course it was frustrating for us sellers, of course it was disrespectful by the site that we sellers got no notification, and of course we were most annoyed that Etsy DID NOT offer up any explanation/communication/acknowledgment whatsoever,.... and yes we had to suck it up buttercup and move on!

Re: Canada Post Expedited Lite Rate

NO this is not Etsy...but I also have been on eBay long enough to know that eBay is not the same site it was a even a year ago and the support for Canadian sellers has gone to H*LL ......and I have learned over recent years to expect NOTHING from eBay support....during this past year, communications from eBay to Canadian sellers has become almost non-existent>THAT is a reality!! ...so if you expect eBay to coddle you, forget it!

Good luck with that "heads up" idea!

Re: Canada Post Expedited Lite Rate

Nobody is asking to be coddled, we are asking for communication and clarification about a change that affects the way we sell on this platform. We don't even know if this is a glitch or if it is a permanent change.

I don't know what your problem is.

Re: Canada Post Expedited Lite Rate

I got no problem... but me thinks maybe you do... living in that dream world of perfection..at least I accept whatever is blowing in the breeze for what it is and don't expect eBay to do what I want it to or what I think it should...

This is eBay's sandbox... don't like the sand flying in your face, go play elsewhere...

meanwhile I accept, adjust, adapt and carry on!

C'est la vie!

Que sera, sera!

As @greenssales mentioned, this is eBay not Etsy. Just because something occurred on one site doesn't mean the same thing needs to happen on another site.

And from what you're describing, it sounds like the sellers on Etsy weren't vocal enough.

Everyone here should make their voices heard through as many channels as they can. I encourage everyone to join the webinar tomorrow and flood the chat/Q&A with questions about these Expedited Lite changes until it is acknowledged.

eBay regularly acknowledges us sellers here on the forums, in official communication channels such as email (I've personally spoken to Luke several times), at eBay Open, and in zoom meetings (one of which is scheduled for tomorrow, as mentioned, and three more are scheduled throughout December). Is Etsy having Zoom meetings with their Canadian userbase? I don't think so.

Sorry you've had a poor experience with the communication from the powers-that-be at Etsy, but no one should be led to believe that they should "settle" for zero explanation just because that's what sellers on another site have become accustomed to. You are not currently a seller on this platform, so these issues don't affect you as much as they do to others (especially those of us that sell small/light collectibles).

Re: Canada Post Expedited Lite Rate

I have seen, we all have seen, the poor communication with eBay in the forums over the past many months

and it is just recently that communications with eBay in the forums opened up again...

And just because I currently do not have any active listings means nothing> I generally don't list on eBay at this time of year...

I am STILL an eBay seller, until I decide otherwise!!

...and yes I do list/sell small light weight  items> I just don't list anything that "needs" Expedited Lite as a shipping method...I utilize oversize lettermail...

I googled Canada Post Expedited lite 2 nights ago to find that page (to see if it was showing the rates) and the 5.70 Toronto was showing then, so its literally been changed in the past day or two in my opinion.

Re: Canada Post Expedited Lite Rate

Ive got a few orders to ship.  Ill need to send them to chit chats if not resolved overnight and will not be as good of a customer experience vs Canada Post Lite. These issues during the busiest time of year need to be addressed urgently IMO.

Re: Canada Post Expedited Lite Rate

Luke responded to one person and the message was shared in one of the Canadian reselling Facebook groups (name edited out for privacy). Looks like it was an error - anyone impacted will receive automatic refunds. Apparently discounts will be getting better as well, and Expedited Lite is being expanded to 250g weight limits.

Hi @dinomitesales! Here is a link below to our latest announcement as well as clarification for the Expedited Shipping rates.

"Please note: due to a technical error, some sellers may have seen incorrectly high rates for select Canada Post services this week. eBay is addressing this issue and will issue automated credits for sellers impacted by these rates over the next 2-3 weeks."
