Discovered eIS Canada issues Discussion

Open post for known issues regarding eIS Canada. Add as you come across them.

1. Default shipping method  domestic letter being used vs USA Tracked or Expedited. (I am guessing some cases you could ship Expedited lite to hub vs letter to get tracked but not always. It would mean determining which ones would qualify and blocking letter if it is an eIS order). Once buyer pays you are basically hooped unless there was add on reason allowed for cancelling that was more appropriate.)

Who is dealing with specifically Canadian problems at the moment?

Devon definitely still works for eBay - the US boards show him logged in right now and he has replied to at least one post there today.

Re: Discovered eIS Canada issues Discussion

This isn't an issue per se, but thought I'd let anyone who might be wondering about the when and how they are chosing the earlier participants. I got email today from eBay that I've now been enrolled in the program. This is fine with me but I'm still planning on waiting a bit until more kinks are worked out. (And when I come to the board I see more happy/positive posts than the scary ones I've been reading.)

For anyone wondering/waiting I thought I'd share I'm enrolled even though I have not had any active listings at all since the end of June, I no longer have a store, and I lost top rated status since I've been waiting this time out, but I was still told I'm set up and ready to go (if I ever get the nerve up!)

Re: Discovered eIS Canada issues Discussion

This isn't necessarily an issue with eIS itself, but when shipping my first item to the hub I noticed that Sendle, ICS, and Purolator outright refused to ship to the address. I'm not sure why, but I assume it's something that can be fixed fairly easily.  Canada Post and UPS seem to be okay with it.

Re: Discovered eIS Canada issues Discussion

What does Zonons and Canada Post show? I think postal shipments are not subject to the IEEPA tariff, aka would be 7.99 less, or possible they are only subject to IEEPA and would be 15.01 less but curious if thats how it would price out!

I said they are possibly not subject to IEEPA, or they are ONLY subject to IEEPA. I ship tariff free stuff, so not sure but I know that Chit Chats and stallion etc have to collect more stuff similar to what Fedex and UPS does. Postal imports are under a different set of rules for this tariff stuff. Aka its good to check all avenues 🙂

I did a quick manual test on zonos for $40.00 Shoes with Bandeldesh as the country and it showed $8.00 for tariffs. So only the 7.99 IEEPA seems to apply on my testing, thus saving $15.00 minus the Zonos processing fee of like $4.79 on the app ($1.99+some % of item value with auto billing on Canada Post).

Either way this is like $10 cheaper for the tariffs (postage cost could rule out the savings, but worth checking)

Hey @clemowbooks! Can you share the specific problem that you are running into so I can get that in front of the Shipping team or the correct Product team.

Is there someone at eBay running this new program? Would it be possible to have a mini-seminar with them? Would it be possible to include the manager of the Mississauga plant involved?
Or maybe just instructions on how to get the door open?

@mandicrafts

I live 20 minutes up the road from the Hub.

Would you have time for  road trip?
It might be worth your while (and ours by extension) to drive there and see what the entire building is like.
It seems unusual, when I look at the Google Maps over head image, that there is no "front door" to the quite large building.  And there are certainly loading docks visible.

You may have more time than the carrier's drive to explore the site - and perhaps find the real drop off point.

Hi @reallynicestamps! That is a great suggestion and I will see if that is something that can be possible in the future from our eIS team. I will be sure to udpate if I get any information on that.

The cost of tracked shipping from BC or NL (or NU!) to ON is the first question.

Even lightweight items like my stamps cost about $12 to ship East.

Is tracking necessary?

How can we use eIS given that burden ?

Who is billed for the Trump Tariff, the seller or the US buyer?

Is the tariff included on the buyer's invoice and paid upfront before the seller ships as state sales taxes are now?
Is it a separate line item?

Re: Discovered eIS Canada issues Discussion

I checked the tracking for the two items I sent to the hub (both by UPS) and UPS noted on both that the postal code was wrong and changed it (I don't know what to). Hoping I don't get an address correction fee on those, but it appears that the postal code eBay is giving us may be wrong. This would also make sense given that Purolator, ICS, and Sendle all refused to ship to the address. An incorrect postal code may be why.

If you look up “2520 Royal Windsor” on the Canada Post website’s “Find a Postal Code” tool, it shows two different postal codes. Apparently “2-2520 Royal Windsor” has a different postal code than “2520 Royal Windsor”.

Re: Discovered eIS Canada issues Discussion

They very badly need some sort of batched shipping program. I don't see why this wouldn't be offered. Chit Chats and Stallion both have it.

Even for a fairly casual seller who is close to the hub and might get a few eIS shipments a week, it would be $10-$15 to throw everything in one Canada Post or UPS parcel vs $6-$12 per parcel. Even with 5 sales per shipping cycle, that represents substantial savings. A big criticism of the eIS program is the cost to deliver the product. Slashing that cost by as much as $10-15 per order for higher volume sellers could go a long way in allowing them to deliver value to international customers by offering more tolerable shipping rates.

If there are liability concerns about individual items not getting scanned, they could set a price point where shipments require their own label, or where eBay will not investigate if it goes missing before being scanned in from a batch.

If not getting an acceptance scan is a major issue, I can't imagine that there isn't a shipping carrier or retailer who they couldn't partner with to create a batch system. Someone else mentioned previously that Purolator allows multiple items to be included as part of one shipment for one price.

ICS, CanPar, and Purolator offer it, which you can access via Click Ship. What I don't know is whether or not you can put a unique number (or C/O and evtn) on each parcel that's needed for eIS to process it. Maybe you could add it as an extra label to the package? I don't know exactly how they do the processing at the hub so I don't know if that would work or not, but if they accept lettermail items which wouldn't be tied to a tracking number then I assume that it should work for parcels too. Note also that none of those companies will currently ship to the hub, although I think that's an issue with the hub's postal code which I'm assuming will get addressed pretty quickly.

To give people an idea:

Sending one 12x6x6 box weighing 1 kg from northern Ontario to CN Tower (including tax):
ICS: $11.91
UPS: $12.78

CanPar: $15.53
Purolator: $16.10

Sending the same thing in two 6x6x6 boxes each weighing 0.5 kg:

ICS: $12.23

Purolator: $16.10

CanPar: $16.40

UPS: $20.72

And finally, sending four 6x6x6 boxes each weighing 0.5 kg:

ICS: $13.09

Purolator: $17.52

CanPar: $21.11

UPS: $33.95

For the multiple boxes is that cost for each box, or the total for all the boxes?

Stallion needs to update its address database, then. as the address is in the Canada Post database.  See earlier posts on this.

What's causing confusion for carriers is that the warehouse that Gosincro is leasing was likely partitioned after the lease was finalized.  Items are received and checked in at "suite" number 2 while other parts of the operation are in another part of the building with a different postal code.

From what I can see, the eIS/Gosincro postal code for the second "suite" appears to be in use in another neighbourhood about half an hour's drive away, and that's probably the crux of the confusion.

Has anyone seen a  payout breakdown from an EIS sale yet?  Just wondering if eBay is including import fees with the sales amount they apply their fee percentage to.

My understanding based on the workings of the US eIS is that the FVF are based on the same charges sellers would see if they shipped internationally directly, except the International Fee, which doesn't apply.

$10.19 was the domestic rate to the hub and it went to Europe.
