Just printed my first Expedited label from PayPal. I note on the instructions that I am supposed to "attach a plastic envelope to the largest side of the box"
Problem is that Canada Post won't sell me these without a VentureOne card. At least online, anyway. It is hours before the local outlet opens.
Will I be able to get the plastic envelopes at my local CP outlet without a VentureOne card? Do I really even need it?
Anyone got the card? Will it be handed to me on the spot? Or will I have to wait for it? I really want to ship today.
thanks,
Jeff

I have a Venture One card. It will get you a 5% disount on certain parcels, not
everything you mail. With the cards useage you are given "POINTS" and no one at my local PO knows what the "POINTS" can be used for.
As for the plastic envelope on the parcel? Sorry I can only speculate why it would be needed.

Jeff,
You should use a plastic envelope(No charge)for your shipping label. Also make sure that the postal clerk scans the parcel.Plus get the lower part the lapel stamped by the crerk (This is your receipt that your item was deposited.
Always be aware that some retail clerks may take you for a ride! Self Education is the key
that will save you from falling easy prey to any unethnical issue!
I hope this will be of some help.

Ron.

Hmmm, I thought I read everything carefully the first time I printed an Expidited label and I missed the part about the plastic envelope. It did say something about not covering the label with tape, which did not make sense to me because I always cover the shipping label with clear tape for protection.
Anyway, I packed the parcel, took it to the post office and got them to check it out. They said it was fine. I specifically asked about the tape, and she said I I had not put it on they would probably have suggested to cover it.
I've shipped 3 parcels the same way and so far no problems.
Where did you read the part about the plastic envelope. I'll have to check that out

You can tape just be clean about it ... as long as the tape isn't crimped or the paper is crimped and the barcode can be scanned tape is fine.. They say that because if it is not covered nice and neat it won't read on the sorting tables .. I shipped using tape for years

@ Ron
I didn't ask him to stamp the bottom half as I left it at home. Fortunately, tracking indicates it is 300 miles from here already. Next time, I will do this though. Thanks!
@ Wendy
The instructions which print out on the bottom half of the Expedited shipping label page, step # 5, says to attach the plastic envelope.
So, as it turns out, the local outlet does not carry the plastic envelopes. The clerk said to just tape it on. He said I could tape over the barcode. I didn't just in case.
The sale was made around 10:30 last night. In my attempt to be as quick as possible with shipping, I dropped it off first thing this AM. When I got home a few minutes ago, there was a message from the buyer asking me to be sure and include a request for a signature on it.
Nuts! I know the onus was on him to request this within minutes of buying rather than .roughly 11 hours later. Still, I hope he is good to me on Feedback. It would suck to lose a good rating for being TOO efficient. 😮

If the parcel has been scanned then that is proof that it is in the postal system. There's no need to have anything stamped.
Proof of shipment isn't all that useful except in a couple of situations. If the buyer files a credit card chargeback, Paypal will accept proof of shipment or delivery. However, I am not sure if they will only accept online proof of shipment. The last time I had a chargeback they did say that I could fax any "other" proof of shipment that I had so they may accept a stamp. But, for the amount of chargebacks that I've had over the years, it's not worth my time to stand in line at the post office just to get a proof of shipment stamp for every package..
Some third party insurance companies require proof of shipment if you make a claim so if you did buy insurance from another company, the stamp could come in handy. But like the example before, there's no need for a stamp if the item has been scanned.

oh...and as far as tape...I always used to tape over the label including the bar code and it was never a problem. But once I started using labelopes (plastic envelopes) I realized how much easier they were to use so it is worth your while to apply for a Venture One card and to order labelopes online.

@ bytownjeff -- Yes, I've found this too, much more convenient! And if you order them from the Cda Post website with your Venture One ID #, they're free, with free shipping (unbelievable, I know, but true!). You'll get them in just a few days from ordering.
They'll let you "purchase" 50 at a time, and be sure to remember that they're called "Labelopes", as PJ noted, otherwise you'll never find them in the Cda Post catalogue.
By the way, I've noticed the post office clerks are extremely reluctant to give the labelopes out, so I never let my supply get below about 10. I was told by the CP clerk that they have to pay to get them in, so they don't like to hand out many at a time (go figure).

To OP:
You can order the labelopes on canadapost's website for free after getting a ventureone (free) account. I think they come in bundles of 10 or 100... I think. Last I tried ordering some, it was over a year ago and I still have tons since I have very few sales requiring expedited shipping.
And yeah you can use those big row of thick clear tape over the shipping label. I actually always make sure the barcode is covered by tape neatly (not crampled, no overlapping tape over it) so that it doesn't get destroyed during transit.

I know this isn't really on topic, but I haven't been able to order any of the commercial shipping supplies on CanadaPost.ca
When I click on the pouches, or those airmail stickers it says 'This item is no longer available for purchase'
Is anyone else having the same problem?

@ninth89
Just placed an order for 50. They seem to be in increments of 10.
As it happens, I do own a small business. Although, it doesn't rely on Canada Post at all. My Ebay listings are only personal things I inherited years ago
Hmm. So Canada Post won't sell them to me without the free VentureOne card. But they will ship any quantity I want to me absolutely free? Interesting business model. 😄

Just cover it in clear packing tape. A dollar a roll at your nearest dollar store. I think the reason behind the clear protective cover is that some home printer ink can be scratched off of glossy label paper.
Packing tape is great it can hold envelope corners in a neatly folded position and even compress bubble wrap to make your packages smaller. I used to wrap the entire package before shipping essentially making it waterproof with a thin layer of plastic.

You can't get the airmail stickers through the website, just go to your local post office, tell them you ship a lot of airmail items, and you use online shipping labels, so you need a lot of them, they will give you a stack for free. As far as the plastic pouches go, they are called labeloupe's at the Canada post website if you are logged into your account you should be able to get them shipped to you free of charge. I got some a couple of months ago, 200 of them no problem. Also when you are there look under the ebay supplies tab sometimes they give away Ebay pack envelopes free. I use these all the time even if I have to pay for them, they are think large envelopes that you can put a lot of different types of things in. I cut them in half for smaller objects.

@ bytownjeff and renfrewite
Thanks for the replies.
Turned out that my ventureone card wasn't linked to my CanadaPost account. So when I called the rep they told me to just create a new CanadaPost account.
Had to do it on Firefox since there were problems with the site on Chrome, kept redirecting to the personal profile instead of business.

You can get them from the Canada Post website. I ordered 25 sheets of them just this afternoon. The only thing I couldn't find was the "flip over" stickers. I'll have to try to get more from my local PO.
