Heads up for anyone that processes shipments with USPS from Canada

This just showed up from Shippo. Link attached. When creating labels make sure your measurements are accurate. Affective April 3, 2022

...get ready for the "complaints" to start pouring in.

Always verify the fully packed package both dimensions and weight BEFORE printing any label.

And I round up to the nearest cm for each side of the package, just for good measure.

For more information on the new USPS surcharges you can hear the March 29 episode of eBay For business at this link

As well Tyler is on the podcast. Not sure if it's "our Tyler"....

I'm surprised these charges aren't already being added for incorrect dimensions. I'm not sure why this is a big deal... CP does the same thing. I personally always overestimate to be safe. And thankfully most of my US shipments are under 1lb, so I rarely have to measure anyway. 🙂

According to link, non-compliance fee is 1.50. Additional fees as follows.

USPS Non Standard Fee

The USPS Non Standard Fee has a few more layers to unpack. Essentially, packages that exceed a certain dimensional threshold will incur an additional fee in addition to the postage.

  • Parcels that are longer than 22 inches but less than 30 inches will see a $4.00 surcharge.
  • Parcels that exceed 30 inches in length will incur a $15.00 surcharge.
  • Parcels that measure greater than 2 cubic (3456 cubic inches) feet will also see a $15.00 fee added.

If you use eBay Labels/Shippo(not sure about PayPal), the option for shipping tubes is not included. You would need to process with CP.

USPS has charged back sellers when the wrong weight or dimensions was used for a few years now. It looks like they may be starting to add a penalty as well as charge for the correct amount.

They also have surcharges for extra long packages and a few other things.
