How to set up shipping rates on ebay while using chit chat discounted shipping rates

Hello,

I am a new Ebay seller ( less than a month old) and list on Ebay.Ca.  I have recently posted some items to sell and use Ebay's calculator to determine the shipping rates. I only ship in both the US and Canada. The shipping costs calculated by Ebay are quite high . I have decided to join Chit Chat to benefit from their cheaper shipping costs.  Since it s difficult to predict the locations of my future buyers, I cannot propose a flat shipping rate.  ( or can  I ?)

Ebay's estimated shipping rates are high , I would like to list Chit Chat' s discounted shipping rates , but it s quite hard to determine at the moment without a buyer's location.

Please for those who use chit chat , how do you go about shipping costs? I wish I could list the discounted chit chats shipping costs on ebay in order to entice my buyers and land sales

I appreciate your input 🙂

Are you using Chit Chats for within Canada as well?  If they do offer a discount off of Canada Post rates within Canada you could still use calculated shipping. If you wanted to pass on some of the savings to buyers you could set up your shipping preferences to offer a carrier discount off of the carrier price for domestic sales.  You would do that here...

It would probably be best to do a flat rate for the US for each item. It isn't going to be 100% accurate as prices vary across the different zones of the US...more so with Priority but I don't know how else you could do it.  Keep in mind that you do pay eBay and Paypal fees on the shipping that the buyer pays so you might want to charge slightly more than the actual cost for postage and packaging supplies.

I just had a look at your listings and other than one item, your listings do not show a shipping cost for the US.  The Canadian locations are fine but if you are using expedited parcel USA on those listings, the calculator only works if the dimensions are the same or bigger than the minimums specified by Canada Post for that service. Those dimensions are 21cm x 14cm x .5cm.   If one of those dimensions is smaller than that, the calculator won't work.

If you are using small packet or tracked packet USA the min. dimensions are 14cm x 9cm

I use ChitChats most of the time for my US shipping, and I just charge a flat rate list as 'Canada Post Small Packet Tracked".  There is no option for 3rd party shipping, and this is the best way I can indicate it's being tracked.  I don't think they really care who initiates the shipping up here anyway, as long as it's USPS down there, has a tracking number and gets there fast (and US shipping for me is fast with ChitChats).

Most of my US items are small and lightweight (which is really the only benefit to using ChitChats), so I charge anywhere between $4-$6 to ship (which is really what really seems to be the max American's are willing to pay). I do have some heavier items that are slightly cheaper with ChitChats vs. Canada Post tracked, but I'll only use ChitChats then if I am shipping other stuff with it, because It's not worth the 30 min drive for one package.  That's why listing as Canada Post tracked kinda covers your butt, because you can decide later what's the best way to ship.  And the tracked shipping with Canada Post in the higher weight ranges isn't much more than untracked, anyway.

I don't use ChitChats for Canadian shipping.  Takes waaaaaay to long to get items from BC to ON.  And i've had stuff go missing!
