I've sold hundreds of items on ebay although nothing in the past year so why are my funds on hold from a sale I made? Anyone have any idea? Thanks!

Because you haven't sold anything the past year.
"New or infrequent sellers will experience transaction holds while eBay confirms that their items have been successfully delivered."

It is worth noting that much like most of the pain in the rear rules we have to live with now, this is probably a result of the fact that enterprising criminals would take over dormant accounts, sell a bunch of stuff quickly and disappear.
Once that happens often enough to be noticed by eBay, we find ourselves with yet another annoying rule.
We all hate the rules but I do understand why they do it, the concept is not much different than the rules I use as to whether I block a customer or not....some of the customers probably wouldn't agree with my ruleset either.

Thirty days after reviving your selling, you can ask eBay to remove (or reduce) any limitations on your account.
The social media eBay employees would be better than the subcontracted phone reps, but when I did this by phone a couple of years ago, my $100 restriction was raised to $40,000.
A little more than I needed.

These are 2 of the eBay ca help pages on the subject.
https://www.ebay.ca/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold/payments-hold?id=4816
They go into some of the why's and becauses on the subject. Direct clarification as to what caused a hold on an account is a bit more difficult to get clarification or an actual timeframe of WHEN it will be ended. Especially when it's a long time seller that may have taken a bit of a break from selling for whatever reason it may have been. As far as eBay is concerned....Just how it is...Deal with it. Not too helpfful for seller that needs to be selling and can't afford to have funds put on hold...Especially when feedback is hit or miss or tracking is not an option. And not every account has been hijacked.
