Purchased Free Tues. label but pkg weighs more than I was charged for - what will CP do?

I bought and printed out my Free Shipping Tuesday label but now find my pkg is 2cm larger on one side and weighs almost a kilo more than I paid for. Will Canada Post just charge the difference to my account or will they think I haven’t paid and charge entire amount again? Does anyone know?

I already had to pay an extra $8 due to how they figure out the “actual” weight. I put in 3 kilos, they show the weight as  7.680, now my pkg weighs almost 4 kilos.

Thanks.

Canada Post requires you to put a credit card on file.

If they re-assess a package and determine that the dimensions you provided were lower than what they determine to be the actual dimensions, they will charge the difference to your credit card that is on file.

The package will still be delivered. That is the big positive of this system. Especially for people like casual eBay sellers who may not have large scales, honest mistakes will sometimes happen when weighing very large parcels. This ensures that you don't have to worry about dealing with a return to sender over that kind of mistake.

The negative is that you don't have any say in how they assess the weight of your package. Unlike at a postal counter, you cannot just disagree with the price and choose not to send it. You also do not see the person weighing it. If they think your package is $2 more in weight, it's $2 more charged to your card.

If your concern is will the package make it to your customer. The answer is, yes it should make it to your customer.

If your concern is, will you be charged extra. The answer is, maybe. It will probably only be a few dollars. You shouldn't be charged for an entire new label.

Limit for that promotion is 5 Kg...Actual/Dim. Whichever is greatest. Over the 5 kg you would pay the difference.

Hi Lotz, so I will just have to pay the difference from the previously paid dimensional weight and the new dimensional weight? I really don’t want to waste my label, especially since I already had to pay extra. As long as its okay to mail it and just pay the difference that’s fine. I just wondered how they would know how much I had already paid (or not paid, as in the free part).

If you have already generated a label and shipping showed as free you could apply and then bring to post office with your small business account number and they would confirm difference. Pay at that point. (Any applicable discount would be pre-calculated into the original label)

My  guess is that they will charge your payment source just for any extra amount that you owe.   Since you are paying for dimensional shipping the extra kilo probably won't matter but the extra 2 cm might make a small difference.
