Seller Changing Locations

Hello everyone

I am wondering what steps I have to complete in order to change locations as a seller.  I have relocated about 3 hours away, within the same province.  I do plan on returning to the original, primary location, but that will be months down the road.

Also, I have physically relocated now, and my store was set to vacation while I did this.  I now have sales that will need to be shipped as well.  Is there anything different that I will have to do with those particular items?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I haven't moved since I registered on ebay but I believe you will need to change your address on ebay and Paypal.  On ebay I think that there are 2 or 3 places to change..a ship to address, a return address and a shipping from address.  You will probably  need to change your postal code on the listings as well.

When you relist your items, change the Location to your current town/ postal code.

I'm still finding listings that say "Ottawa" although I moved to BC five years ago.

It's not very important since you are in the same province.

It is very important to change your address on Paypal, since that will be used to ship any purchases to you. That your eBay address does not match is less important.

At the top of your Paypal account page->Go to Help-> My Account->Updating Profile Information-> How do I change my mailing or street address?

As an aside-- did you BUY a Change of Address service from Canada Post?

I don't think they will forward parcels, so when you go into the Post Office (not outlet) to do this, ask the postmaster how to handle this if you think it might come up.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to relist them all.  I thought perhaps  I could bulk edit or it would auto populate the info once changed?

If you are purchasing the shipping labels online like I am, are we able to drop those packages off at any post office?  My main concern with getting it switched up is so the shipping charges are accurate for the buyer.

With your listings that said Ottawa for example, what would you have done if an item sold?

I did not buy an address change, no.  I still have access to the primary address, it's my home.  It is in Calgary, and am now 2.5 hours north, just south of Edmonton.

I am wondering if perhaps I could just leave it alone, print my labels like normal, and just drop the boxes off at the post office out here?

Sorry, very confused and conflicted in what to do, and still waiting on word from eBay itself.  I sent an email, but that will take a bit, and eBay for Business on Facebook is not available until tomorrow.

Thanks for your input thus far

Nope.

But there is no urgent reason to change them all at once.

You could do them at 10 a day over the next couple of weeks if you like. Or as the 30 day listing comes to an end.

I drop most of my items into the nearest postbox.

The only time I go near the PO is when (for reasons we won't go into) I am buying a tracked service.

I would.

I like to live on the edge.

The worst problem is that a returned package (very very rare) goes to your home address instead of you current address. I hope there is someone there to let you know?

With your listings that said Ottawa for example, what would you have done if an item sold?

Worst case is that the buyer of a Calculated Shipping item is National from Ottawa instead of Regional from Vancouver Island.

Or vice versa.
I consider that trifling.

Only about 5% of my sales are to Canada, so again very very rare. And very few items still say Ottawa, since most of my stock has been purchased and listed more recently.

And most of my items are both cheaper and less bulky than yours, with the exception of the LootCrates, so I mostly use letterpost.

Huh.

That "reasons I won't go into" sounds weird.

I mostly use discount postage stamps for mailing, which reduces my costs a lot.

When I need to track something, rather than print a label at home, I put most of the cost on the parcel in stamps, then buy the tracking label and pay the few pennies I inevitably miscalculated by, at the PO counter.

Having dropped most of that day's shipments into the mailbox outside the PO.  They will get postmarked at the terminal.

Once again, thank you for the info!

I think I will just leave it as is for now.  I guess I'll see the reaction at the postal outlet in the grocery store tomorrow.  Like I said, I have reached out for an official ruling and when they get back to me, I'll update here.

Take care

@metrics-sales

You CAN bulk change the Item Location field.

In Seller Hub

View all items

Edit dropdown -> edit all

It will process the items

Tick the small select all box

From the Edit Fields dropdown select Item Location

In the window that open it should say "edit listings in bulk"

The current Location info will be pre-filled in the fields, just change and save.

Hi there was thinking about selling on eBay and was wondering how your sales were. I have heard some people have been hit bad.

Actually, a lot of sellers are doing well right now as so many people are at home and doing the majority of their shopping online. How well you do at any time generally has a lot to do with what you sell....if it is in demand.....how much competition you have.....and can you source the product at a low enough price to make a profit after paying fees and other expenses.  It is important to do your due diligence before starting to sell here.
