Hi there Beginner ebay seller here , I am selling a Tailgate on Ebay and I have sold my item during a auction .  The Buyer has a fairly high Buyer Rating with over a 1000 feedbacks Comments.      I found it a bit daunting how many options and buttons there was when setting the ad up , and especially the shipping . I set it to the best of my knowledge and would like to ask for help in clarifying that I set the price right etc.  Also Does the payment for shipping be paid up front or am I supposed to get payment for shipping - and cost of item before I ship it>?

Where is your buyer located?
Shipping can be the most confusing part of selling here and I think that you made a  fairly common mistake for the shipping part.  You listed on eBay motors which is on the US eBay site not on the Canadian site.  What you probably didn't realize is that on the US site the domestic shipping rate you input is for shipping to the US., not for Canada. In this case you have free FedEx overnight service to the US. I'm not sure if that is a service that is available internationally but even if it is, I think it would be very expensive for an item that size.

On The US site, Canada  and other countries are under international shipping so your ad states that you are using UPS worldwide express plus at a cost of $100.  I don't know the cost of  sending a large item like that within Canada but I am sure that it will cost more than $100 to ship it overseas.  It would have been best to limit shipping within Canada and to the US or even just limit it to local pick up only since it is going to be akward to ship.

Has the buyer paid?   When they do pay they will also pay for the shipping amount that you entered in the listing and then you pay for the shipping.   Your next step would be to contact the courier or look on their website find out the cost to send something like that.  If you can let us know where the buyer is and if they have paid or not someone here may be able to give you more specific information.

My impression here is you have learned a major lesson when it comes to selling and the shipping of very large items. Going forward you may either want to first check to see how other sellers are selling similar items (lots of research/due dilligence) or consider selling locally only with pick up. Proper packaging will definitely be costly.  Couriers can have allowable size limits. Often those types of items will require a trucking company vs a courier. (75 lb limit or oversized charge can be in affect. And due to the size a cubing factor would also be in play.  Hope you are able to proceed to meet your buyers expectations. Best of luck.

Thanks for your feedback , and advice .

My item sold (a tailgate for a truck) , and I has the shipping cost configured wrong , it came to 300 it would cost to ship from what I calulated and the tailgate sold for 300.  I explained my mistake in setting the price for shipping and  asked if  he could pay 500 , It says I have received the payment and it will be held for 14 days since I am new seller. How do I add the extra 200  onto the price .?  Thanks I hope that made sense .

You can't amend the paid transaction.  You're options are to set up a specific listing for "Shipping services" or something for $200.   Or get the purchaser to agree to cancel the current transaction and relist it with the correct shipping amount.  You can provide those options to the buyer and ask them to select one of them.

You want to have the buyer choose one so that the cancellation reason is that it is the buyer's request.  If you cancel it on your own, you will have a strike against your seller's account and as you are staring out, that is to be avoided.

As a buyer my prefence would be to have the whole amount in one transaction so that I have the full eBay buyer's protection available.

While your customer's payment will not be transferred to your chequing account during the Hold, you can use the Held funds to buy your shipping labels through eBay.

And sometimes there are substantial discounts from the counter price for doing that.

Unfortunately, it looks like you are going to lose money on this transaction, which frankly is not unusual with first sales since there is a steep learning curve with any online selling site.

I suggest that you throw yourself on the buyer's mercy and ask that they request Cancellation. Apologize a lot.

FWIW- not useful for this bulky item, but if you register for a Solutions for Small Business account with Canada Post, you get a Free Domestic parcel or Tracked Packet USA every Tuesday this month.
