Selling Overview page says "Add recommended item specifics" to almost ALL listings!

For anyone still following along: 17-->47 Posts for this discussion are from the last 4 days making a zombie thread by semantics only.

Post 25, 36, 44, 46  Attn: tyler@ebay  This update is causing an extreme amount of extra work for eBay sellers for listings that were created correctly originally.

Author field noted below would have been the 2nd field used in filling in specifics originally but now is blank because of this update. This is one example of 125 + that require "supposed fixing".

Even more fun.

I was listing some books last night, all science fiction, and the Item Specifics requested kept changing.

The one that I really noticed, was that not all were asking for the ISBN number.

No one searches by ISBN, but it should trigger the eBay catalogue to automatically fill some of those IS.

Testing a listing that requires updating, the first book listing I open title is filled in under Item Specifics. Open the tool  and the first Specific required is Book Title.  ISBN was filled in originally when the listing(s) were created and used when they matched the listing being created.

When they(eBay) some information was ported over. The big problem not all and no guarantees it was ported over corrected/accurately. One seller on dot in trying to fix their listings did not have enough room to insert the entire title. Only room for 80 Characters.

As pointed out in the past this bigger concern is you are unable to tell which specifics are mandatory either creating or updating a listing(relist/sell similar).  Try creating a book listing to confirm.

PS. I dealt with a similar issue a number of years ago with shipping systems. When the company database was moved from Purolator to Loomis the address field were corrupted in the process. Every address had to be manually updated to correct. After we discovered this was an issue they fixed their software so this would not be a problem for anyone else changing systems.

PS #2 - Original Field Name was Title. Upgraded Field Name is Book Title. Basically an over-ride on the original correct information. Very likely similar results for the various fields causing 10000's of seller listings to require updating.

I am pretty ticked off about these changes.

My listing draft was fine a week or so ago and now I not only have all this junk on my screen but I have to fill some things out twice while other things I needed a better description for I have less space to describe. In short, I am spending more time now doing data entry and earning less money doing it.

I'm greatful it's not just a problem with me. I just spent the past few days looking for the off switch to this whole mess before seeing this is bigger than one person.

Title and author were included on these 100's of listings originally. The issue in eBay was caused by eBay updating the specifics title to Book Title. Title is still available but at the bottom of the list. Some information was ported over correctly. Other bits and byes has either been purged or corrupted. The information was correct and accurate when the listing was created originally. Having to re-do (fill in new blanks because of numerous specifics name modifications/additions) is extremely labour intensive.
