When I get questions about shipping costs how can you have them believe that your not padding the costs? I go to Canada post either online or the post office itself and get actual quotes and thats what I send

I personally don't understand the big deal about shipping costs.  Someone asks you for the shipping cost, and you tell it to them. If the overall cost of purchasing the item is too high, they don't buy it.

Example:

I am bidding on an item for which my maximum price is $100.  if you charge $20.00 in shipping, my max bid is $80.00.  If you charge $80 in shipping, my max bid is $20.00.

I don't even think the "how reasonable are the shipping charges" question even makes sense.  If I thought the shipping charges + item cost were too much, I wouldn't purchase the item.

Shipping costs have been a big problem for me, especially in the states it is much cheaper and quite often people don't even realise where you are shipping from, I have lost a lot of money because of shipping.

You have to make sure that you think of your time, your materials, how how much profit you are making after e-bay and paypal fees and make sure you are making some profit.

Also make sure you get a venture one card, it does give you a few discounts, but not much.

One more tip, make absolutely sure to pack really well, because Canada post does not cover breakage, even when it is thier fault. I had a big problem with them recently, I could rant for sometime, but just watch your numbers.

If they think you are padding, give them the weight, the size and tell them to look it up themselves and make sure to add in the rest.

:-)good luck!

I don't think you can.

That's because most sellers do pad the numbers and once a buyer has been lied to numerous times (as I have) you stop believing.

Prior to electronic shipping, and when I first started buying here, I used to compare what I paid to what was on the package.

Sellers who swore up and down that they were charging actual cost and not a penny more were routinely doubling and tripling up.

Yet, they acted insulted when I suggested that their bills might be on the hi-side.

That, and Dr. Phil taught me a lot about the way people lie.

Unless you charge US rates for shipping someone will always think you're lying.
