Shipping from Canada to the USA with UPS

Any one in Canada have any success with shipping to the USA using UPS?

I have used Canada Post but seeing they are on strike they are not an option.

I have used FEDEX  international economy which is very fast 2-3 days and a bit more expensive but has been having problem on here. They also do not charge anything extra when delivered int he USA.

then there is UPS Standard, not sure if they charge anything extra when delivered in the USA

Yes I use UPS & FedEx via USA from Canada. UPS is cheaper & I havent had any issues with them. FedEx I have had to file 3 claims in the 2 years of selling on eBay.

Shipping from Canada to the USA with UPS

No experience with shipping anything to the USA via UPS. Another member of this household used UPS on a smaller package but that was within Canada, and eBay's discounted rate with UPS was comparable with CP. However, that may not be the case with larger size packages . This same person shipped a larger package via FedEx(at buyer's request) >a 3+ Kg package shipped within Canada >rather expensive shipping costs there...Have no experience with shipping anything to the USA via Fedex...

Although my experience is a bit old there should be no additional charges for customs brokerage if the declared value is less than US$800.

There can still be upcharges for rural, Dim weight adjustments, address correction etc but these by default will be billed back to the sender. UPS is not so bad in this regard while FedEx are the kings of upcharges.

I have been using UPS to ship to Canada & the US during the strike.  Mailed 2 parcels on Monday & both were delivered today (1 in Canada & 1 in US).  The cost was close to Canada Post.  Made up the labels on eBay & it included tracking.

I did 2 UPS about a year ago for heavier items with values below $500 and it was straightforward, no problems.   They were heavy so no issue with volumetric calculations.

I have had no xtra charges at all via UPS to the USA. An item that would have cost $48 through FedEx... was a cost of $32.09 through UPS.

I have also applied for a business acct through Purolator which is up to 65% discount each shipment for 12 months Canada or USA. Need to find a cheaper way to ship throughout Canada, so hopefully this is the answer. Even though my customer base is 95% USA... I do get the odd Canadian buyer.

Canadian buyer purchased a hockey binder (700gr).... FedEx wants $84.00 & UPS wants $113.54. The smaller & less weight an item is the more expensive thoughout Canada which is ludicrous.

I could drive it for cheaper considering the customer lives 9 hrs from me lol.

They shouldn't charge a brokerage fee. Anything under $800 is supposed to be fine to send to the USA, additionally eBay already collects the taxes.

I used it the last few weeks with no problems. It is reasonably fast. I am in Ontario, and I have had packages arrive to Eastern USA in as little as 2 days. Farther out places like California and Florida seem to take 4-5 business days.

They have very cheap pickups if you book online the day before. It's less than a dollar. It's $2-$3 if you book the day of. My only advice would be that if you're the worried type, politely ask them to scan when they pick it up. They do not scan by default. Most items usually get a scan the same night, but there can sometimes be a 24-48 hour delay with scans a the depot.

The only thing is to keep an eye on your shipping charges in your managed payments. There have been people over the past few years who claim to receive large shipping adjustments from UPS and Fedex. I have not received one yet. You should be able to dispute them so it's not a problem, but it's something you have to keep an eye on.

It's very important to use calculated rates with UPS or Fedex for this exact reason. Every courier except for Canada Post charges high prices to far out or rural routes. If you have a flat rate, you can get burned if someone in a rural area buys your item. Size and weight doesn't matter. It can be a 100g bubble mailer, it will still be subject to a $100 surcharge.

Or, I would put a disclaimer at the bottom of your listings that states customers who reside in a UPS Extended Delivery need to contact you prior to paying so that you can invoice them for the surcharge, otherwise the order will be cancelled.

Nobody is going to understand or read it, but at least if you get a customer who you have to cancel for because it costs $100 to ship a bubble mailer and you only charged $20, you can point to that disclaimer. It also might be helpful for defect or feedback removal. (Problem with address doesn't usually lead to defects, but you can never be too careful with eBay's automated system.)

Here is a list of the UPS surcharges by postal code: https://www.ups.com/media/en/ca/ca_eas.pdf

Purolator has new flat rate boxes as well (only available from their retail stores apparently).  For orders in northern Ontario, don't forget about the Northland Bus either.

I do use eBay labels 99% of the time.... I invested in a postal scale a couple years back... I weigh & measure just about everything before listing.

I list on .ca I use Fedex International Ground for the USA & UPS Standard

For Canada I use .... FedEx Ground 1-7 Days & UPS Standard.

Am I using the incorrect choices for Canada? The cost is crazy to ship from northern on to anywhere within Canada using either of these services.

When I'm creating a label through Ebay with UPS to ship from Canada to US, it doesn't seem to give me a commercial invoice to print out. And when I tried to drop the package off, they wouldn't let me without a copy of the commercial invoice. What am I supposed to do?

I recently sent a large glass floor vase to Kentucky with no issues via UPS and will now trust UPS for all large fragile items going forward. Canada Post and/or USPS seems to use such parcels for soccer practice.

All the customs information is included digitally in the shipping label. There is no separate commercial invoice needed. I suspect the staff at your local UPS drop-off location are misinformed. Try another location.
