So am I just a grumpy old stamp guy or a good businessman?

This kind of made me chuckle today.

With Germany's new rules, it does not make fiscal/time sense for me to sell to them anymore after July 1st and I figured on the weekend I might as well block them now.

I've always prided myself on shipping everywhere, but since I was going to block Germany and break that rule, and may have been grumpier than normal, I blocked more, at final count 102 countries got blocked! (This is also a way of easing my way into "retirement" whatever that might actually mean).

Today I got two return to sender items, one that was sent to Ururguay a YEAR ago, and one sent to Germany* in April*.  Both countries were put into the blocked list on the weekend! Very odd that both came back today!! Both buyers received refunds so they aren't out.

Today I also got two more INRs from Uruguay, they will probably eventually arrive and the buyer will repay but for now the buyer's been refunded for them too.

Imo you are simply doing your due diligence and blocking countries that will likely cost you money in the future. I guess that means that you are a good businessman. 🙂

I guess there should have been a 3rd option all of the above! 😉

No, not at all...

With all the new rules and such going into effect this year and the next 3 at least until Agenda 2025 gets put into full effect, it will become less and less interesting or profitable for small sellers to ship to many of these countries, as shipping stuff (tat) all around the world is no longer considered "sustainable" for the environment, hence Germany and it's "Packaging Act", coming soon in one form or another to your own country, quite soon...

If you are like me you are both!

I'm going to let eBay block Germany, I blocked Australia last years when USPS out an embargo in them (since removed) and I was getting fed up with the South American issues so I blocked them as well and tossed in  Africa as well even though in all my time here I only made one sale to Africa and that buyer had me ship to a relative in Hamilton!

Like you, from  1999 until Covid I was a ship to anyone, anywhere seller and probably would still be if not for the fact that the combination of too many US sellers who would not ship to foreigners (even via forwarders), constantly increasing shipping costs (no room for profit there anymore) and the final nail the imposition of VAT. What was once 60%+ of my sales (overseas) had sunk to less than 10% and 99% of delivery problems.

I've got no problem with a few African countries (Egypt, Morocco, RSA) but that's partly because I have worked with people from there who assured me that the postal systems work fine. OTOH, Cameroonian and Nigerian friends discourage using those postal systems.

I figure that you are not only old, but grumpy and there is nothing wrong with that.  We could start a guild or something. Life on the net is tough, keep on hustling!

I will ship to Western Europe, N. America and possessions, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, S. Korea.  Every SINGLE other country I've shipped to there have been problems, from MONTHS long waits for custom's clearance to packages just disappearing.  Then just sit back and TRY to get the shipping costs back from UPS and Canada Post who employ ARMIES to prevent that.
