eBay Wishlist for 2021 - As an eBay seller what would you like fixed?

Tis the season to make lists. So here we go!! What high priority issues in eBay would you like corrected, updated or returned to their former state? Everyone has something in eBay that is a proverbial nuisance or the dreaded "PITA"!! Let's make it 20 to start. 1 per customer please! I believe something like this was started months back on dot com. Initiated by a eBay Team Member. Not sure if it went anywhere or if many are works in progress. Hit the quotes to add and remember to vote with your thumb if you feel it would make life easier for you as an eBay as a seller. Seeing how 2020 went it's always important to dream!!! Let's do what we can to make eBay better in 2021!!!!

CheerS!!  wine_glass Happy selling!!!!! And remember....Keep it clean!!!

  1. Make it possible to fix Item Specific requirements WITHIN the actual listing. An official error message denoting if anything is missing or a mandatory requirement prior to completing. Including a checkbox. "Do not show again" for non-mandatory requirements. In most cases sellers put that missing information in the actual listing. This will streamline the process.

Paying fees on taxes is not ethical.  The taxes are charged by Ebay and remitted by them, they are charging sellers to make the remittance of fees a profit center.  It is a back door fee increase.

@retrocorp.inc

I don't understand is why eBay would increase my promo listings to 150,000 for the .CA site but remove all promo listings (50,000) I received every month for the .COM.

Promotions are for the good of eBay not for the good of the seller.

That's why.

At a guess, dotCOM has lots of listings in your categories, but dotCA could do with more.

I sell books and again at a guess, dot CA and dot COM has lots of those, so while I got Free Listings on both, neither is as high as your 150K.

Or I may have the Free Listings because I also sell sewing patterns which seem to be in demand these days.

Use promotions but never depend on them.

If it is not profitable to list with a 35c fee, rethink how you are selling.

Paypal and Managed Payments are payment processors.

They don't charge a fee on sales taxes, they charge a fee on processing your buyer's payment-- which sometimes includes sales taxes.

Before we retired and closed our shop, we had a merchant credit card account. Our fees on that account included all the money the buyer gave us, including the GST/PST which we remitted monthly.  (When I think about it, that gave us up to 30 days to use that tax money.  Huh.)

So there is your precedent.

EBay decided to run the taxes through the buyer's invoice, because it was simple.  That it costs sellers money (2.9% for US based sellers, 3.7% for Canadian sellers, same as the rest of the payment) was not something they considered of any importance.

FWIW- if you are making enough on eBay to pay taxes to the Canadian government, those fees are deductible.

My store subscription is monthly, not yearly. Could this be a culprit? In the long run, more sales for me is more sales for eBay. But it's for sure there is something to the number of items in certain categories as you mentioned. But really, I don't need 150K. 10K on each site is fine thank you.

Hello tyler@ebay  ,

Hope you had an awesome Christmas a New Years under the circumstance. When you find the time could you address any of these that you can. If they are in the works, on the back burner or just have been missed over the course of time. There are a few in there that come up repeatedly. I know there are many sellers here that would be happy if they could be resolved without requiring some sort of creative work around. As a perk limited comments on MP so I guess that's a plus.

As for the "editorials" etc, that was going to be a concern as soon as I posted. Please process with a grain of salt.grin

Thanks,

-Lotz

Thanks to one and all that participated. It appears there was a tie between @triber  & @rio1953 . Very sorry to announce there was no prize for most "popular" issue other than a bit of extra notoriety. Still, thanks for playing along!! Here's a  birthday in your honour!!!

If you recall the earlier thread about this (https://community.ebay.ca/t5/Seller-Central/heads-up-for-store-subscribers/m-p/450689), it looks like every Canadian seller at every store level lost their bonus listings on .COM this month and only received their pre-bonus amount of .COM store listings, while receiving the bonus or promo listings on .CA only. This was following .CA announcing in December that the increased store listings would become permanent. I had a hunch that they might change something, because .COM was only offering the bonus listings for sellers registered in Managed Payments, but a couple Canadian sellers mentioned they are registered for MP and still did not get the bonus on .COM.

Are you looking at moving your listings over to .CA? They don't make it easy, but it's not impossible. I'll post an update if and when I figure out a foolproof method.

Noticed today on one account that I have no "extra " dotCOM listings. Haven't checked them all though.

I have enough trouble filling my Store quota of "free" listings and really don't need the further 10K to 150K.

I'm holding out on Managed Payments so that may have something to do with it, but you can only bribe people with something they want.

Thank you Lotz, it would have been great if there were some actual results about the problems, I just had 2 more buyers unable to ask for combined shipping invoices.

Rapid Resolution Issues

I find the rapid resolution extremely unfair to Canadian sellers.  Since the implementation from the 2020 Spring Updates, the new rapid resolution automictically  closes "item not  received" cases within three business days unless there is a valid tracking number upload.  As you are aware, tracking is very expensive for Canadian sellers who sell low price point items.  To send tracking to the US starts at $11.09 on an item under 500 grams.  To send with tracking in Canada is between $9.32 to $15.33 on an item under 100 grams.  The $9.32 is a quote for sending within my own city, Calgary, AB.  The $15.33 is to send to Prince Edward Island.  My average selling price is $9.00.  No buyer is going to pay more for shipping than the item is.  Before the implementation of the rapid resolution, I always worked with my buyers who opened an "item not received" case with a successful and positive outcome.  This usually meant sending a second package as I realize that when you send without tracking that packages do go missing or get delivered to the wrong address.  My buyers were very grateful that I worked with them to get them their item to them so a win-win situation for both buyer and me.  I actually built long-term buyers as they knew I would take care of them if a package did get lost.  With the new rapid resolution, it doesn't allow for me to work with a buyer to address their concerns.  I have no choice but to close the case and issue an refund within three business days so not to get a strike against my account.  This is a  lose-lose situation as most buyers have said they would rather get the item than receive a refund.  For Canadian sellers who sell low price items, they have no choice but to send without tracking (to be in business).  The new rapid resolution system doesn't take this into consideration.  I have talked to the resolution department several times about my concerns and frustration.  And, I get the same generic answer, if no tracking, the case will be closed automictically unless I refund the buyer before the three business days even when the buyer has asked for the item rather than a refund.   And now with the shipping delays caused by Covid, I have had a substantial increase in "item not received" cases.  I had no choice but to refund the cases within three business days even knowing that the item will arrive with the shipping delays.  Some of the buyers have been honest and have said the item has arrived and asked how to pay for it again.  Another reason why this system is flawed.  This has resulted in a very frustrated Canadian seller.   And I would like to hear from other Canadian sellers on this matter.

I have two sets of listings on Garage Sale so I can manage on .CA for the time being. But being able to list all my inventory at once on .COM got me spoiled. My sales went up along with the fact everyone was at home. I raised the issue with Tyler on the weekly chat - maybe if enough people mention it, something could be restored. Fingers crossed.

UPDATE: the .COM listings have returned! I lost the 100k listings but gained 50k back. I am extremely happy I won't have to keep two sets of listings for .CA and .COM. Now if we could only get our items delivered on time.
