20 minutes before the end, someone bid $20.60, so I bid $21.10 10 seconds before the end. The email says I lost, but he's paying $21.10 ...?

Hi camwie.. A 50 cent snipe is not going to win an item for you.

Winner had placed a maximum bid and ebay bids to that max using increments..

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/buy/bid-increments.html

In the event of a tie bid , earliest placed wins. See time placed.

Click on automatic bids on that page to have the complete picture.

Sniping late is the way to go but should be the MAX you are prepared to pay.
