$4 Shipping in the Music:Records category?

Hi,

I'm from Canada and when I try to list on both eBay.com and eBay.ca it says that I cannot charge over $4 to ship a record.

It costs $8.55CAN to ship a vinyl LP by Canada post plus $1.25 for a mailer. How does eBay expect me to only charge $4 for shipping?

I am not doing fixed-price format either. I am selling auction style, so I cannot even increase my price to account for this loss in shipping.

Help?

The shipping caps ONLY apply if you list on .com they DO NOT apply if you list on .ca

The shipping caps are not even in effect until October.

Well, I was getting a lot of errors so I just listed on eBay.ca, but even listing there I got a "warning" saying in October they'll be present on .ca

This policy is really ridiculous.

1stcanonical.......just curious (because I have some LP's to list before the ax drops) - how do you mail one to the US for $8.55 sm packet air. Once I put cardboard on both sides, the weight usually exceeds 500 g making small parcel to the US $10.70 surface?

If it's an LP worth under $40, I just put the LP in the mailer with no protection. I put the LP in a plastic outer-sleeve, tape it shut, and then tape it to the mailer so that it doesn't move around.

If it's worth over that, then I eat the shipping cost. It's brutal.

Not sure what kind of mailers you are using, an LP with 2 "pads" shouldn't go over 500 grams, if it does it's usually not by more than a few grams. If it does go over you should be able to shave a bit off the one of the mailer flaps to get it under or if need be only use one pad.

I'm shipping directly with USPS, need to keep the weight at 1lb (450 grams), I use one cardboard pad and one sheet of bubblewrap.

I seldom sell albums,so I don't bother buying special mailers. Just cut 2 pieces of boxboard to fit, tape them like a sleeve, insert and overwrap with brown paper. Seems like whether it is $8.55 or $10.70, we are going to be screwed - only a matter of by how much 🙂

As someone who buys lots of records I hate when people use home-made mailers. I recommend you purchase some mailers!
