Most warranties are from the manufacturer, not from the seller, although the seller is sometimes the dropoff point for warranty claims.

Unless the seller was an actual Apple seller, he does not have a contract with Apple.

Go to a local Apple distributor with the guarantee papers and your receipt (you can print it out from Paypal) and IF Apple is willing to honour their warranty if the machine was not purchased from an actual Apple dealer, like Simply Computing or Apple itself.

The reasons manufacturers give for not warrantying items not purchased from their licensed distributors include:

  • no control over the handling or storage of the item while in the seller's hands
  • stolen products
  • refurbished products - either not fixed by a licensed mechanic or sold as new
  • out and out counterfeits
  • items meant to work in one country that have been sold into another country.

So contact Apple for your problem. You did send in the warranty card, right?
