Hello all, I have a question concerning the new policy of leaving an item (presumably only fixed price items) as "live" and available listings until a buyer has actually paid. In other words, Buyer #1 commits to buy, I gladly give her 5 days to pay, but Buyer #2 snaps the item up in the meantime by paying immediately. I am very, very concerned about this policy, almost more than any other change eBay has come up with.
My question is: will eBay be doing anything to inform buyers that this policy is in effect, i.e. by way of some sort of warning that if they don't pay immediately, they risk losing their purchase? I believe this warning must come from eBay, not sellers.
Thanks!
P.S. I was apparently recently a "guinea pig" for this new policy, and was in complete shock to see a "sold" item still listed live. Luckily my buyer paid before anyone else came along!

Sorry, one more quick question: any advice on how a Cdn. seller can deal with the apparent disconnect between the eBay.com checkout/cart set up and eBay.ca's checkout when dealing with multiple purchases?
I like to offer reduced (or free) shipping on combined purchases, but this is often very difficult to do through normal invoicing with U.S. buyers, especially if they have used the "Cart".

I don't mean to monopolize this session, but until others arrive ... any update on the Tracked Packet problem?

Good afternoon,
Will we be able to change to a yearly store subscription before May 1? If not, how long do we have to change it before we are charged the higher month to month rate?

Hello rose-dee,
Although the details are still being ironed out, it's pretty safe to say that there will be prominent messaging in place to advise buyers of the new flow. We'll outline those as we approach the launch date.
PS. May I have the item number in question please? Thanks!

Hi Raphael - the item # was 171000548919.
It sold for $200 within just a few days of listing, and was getting a lot of attention (hits/watchers, etc.) which is why I was so worried that it remained "live" after the sale. If I recall, the buyer paid 2 or 3 days later, but I was biting my nails...:|
Thanks for the reply on this. I was hoping eBay would make it crystal clear to buyers so that we sellers wouldn't end up with egg on our faces (or worse).

Not sure if this has been mentioned previously.
I think a lot of us are concerned about claims being submitted & escalated after the forty five day limit.
I'm sure a minority could really abuse this policy.

Hi folks.. A couple of points for clarification respecting the US Global Shipping Program that continues to confuse Canadian shoppers.
Why are estimated import charges not available for viewing on CA as they are on the UK site. What confounds me is they can be viewed on COM.
I respond to a lot of posts on our Answer Center and one that raises ire is the charging, by Pitney , i assume fees, for items that are exempt from import charges to Canada. Neither USPS, or by courier UPS etc charge fees on delivery of exempt items Why are these fees not included , if necessary, in the Priority shipping charge.
An example ..item # 221214813816 .

Unfortunately, specifically due to this disconnect, there is no "sexy" way to achieve this if you're a Canadian seller. The answer includes detailed instructions in your item description and shipping discounts in your Selling Preferences.
Rodney did provide a detailed answer on this very topic a few weeks back. Hope this helps 🙂

... and to follow up on this, will there be any announcements or emails about exactly how to make the change? I think a lot of sellers are wondering where to go and what to do to be able to switch.

I agree that this could be a problem. I also think that a case automatically opening even though a buyer might only want to ask a question will cause problems as well.

The current status is, the problem is identified and the relevant teams are working together towards a fix. We're obviously hoping to see this resolved as soon as possible. Once the scope of work has been identified and we have an ETA for the fix, we'll start working at reimbursing the impacted users.

This is a new buying flow, it's necessary that it be made crystal clear to buyers.
Let me have a look at the item and I'll get back to you.

Hi pjcdn2005
Good afternoon,
Will we be able to change to a yearly store subscription before May 1? If not, how long do we have to change it before we are charged the higher month to month rate?
We have some excellent questions today already! Thanks for this one.
First, here's a page that has a lot of details and examples about how subscription changes will work and how the fees are calculated - http://pages.ebay.ca/sellerinformation/news/feesupdate2013tandc.html#freeinsertionfeelistings
Second, in answer to your questions, you can sign up for annual billing on your store subscription anytime from May 1st forward. There's no time limit - you can change over to annual whenever you wish. Fees will be prorated based on the day you make the change.
There are a couple different billing cycles to be aware of. If you normally get billed in the middle of the month, then you'll want to sign up prior to May 14th to be on the safe side and have it apply as soon as possible. Otherwise, if you pay at the end of the month, best bet is to sign up before the 29th. Whenever you decide to make the change, we'll just prorate the part of your first month that is remaining.

Hello bb_cool_stuff
The only way a buyer can open a case after the 45 days mark has passed is via Customer Support. Hence, any behavior that would constitute abuse should be noticed and prevented by the Support agent reviewing the case.

Thanks very much Raphael, I'll look this up (and print it for future reference). I do set shipping discounts in my Selling Preferences, but occasionally I override those to the customer's benefit, for example giving free, rather than just reduced, shipping where more than 3 or 4 items are purchased. I'll take another look at the Preferences and see if I can expand them somehow.

Hi rose-dee
... and to follow up on this, will there be any announcements or emails about exactly how to make the change? I think a lot of sellers are wondering where to go and what to do to be able to switch.
Here's where you can get more information and sign-up or change your stores subscription:
http://pages.ebay.ca/storefronts/stores2013update.html. There is also a link to the Fee Illustrator, which is a great tool for determining which level makes the most sense for your business.

Does a Fixed Price Item receive better selling exposure if it is NOT listed in a Store?
04-24-2013 01:40 PM
If you normally get billed in the middle of the month, then you'll want to sign up prior to May 14th to be on the safe side and have it apply as soon as possible.
I have to ask this probably silly question: does eBay anticipate any site overload due to the thousands of sellers who might potentially be trying to process a new subscription on the same day or over a short period of time? 🙂
