Burnt by Scam

I recently purchased an item on eBay from a seller who had a 100% at that time. After about 4-5 days of non-shipment I sent a message to the seller and asked about my item. No response. Mind you, I already paid for the item. Then I began to notice negative feedback dropping to about 98% followed by an email from eBay about his account being compromised. The item is no longer listed and got a link to the resolution centre of PayPal. I have opened a case and even escalated it to a claim. PayyPal is 'waiting for a reply" from the no longer existing item and maybe seller. I have sent them an email but have just got an auto response. I am not sure what to do anymore to get my refund. Should i just wait and see? What about the deadlines of claims and all that? Should I email the seller in private? What is the way forward for me?

Wait and see. You will get your refund. You have escalated your case, so no more for you to do.

Burnt by Scam

If you emotionally must do something more, you could add to the dispute the information that the seller is Not A Registered User.

However, Paypal already knows that.

There is a slight possibility that the seller is having some problem and is honestly trying to solve it. Unlikely , of course, he probably is scamming. But for one example, sellers have a credit card on file with eBay to confirm that their fees will be paid. If the cc expires, the seller must update his information or he goes NARU.

That's an example of an honest if sloppy seller.

Don't worry. These scammers are few and far between and eBay and Paypal are pretty good at protecting buyers. There are a lot of transactions going on so the actual number of Disputes is very high, but the percentage is very low.

Your money may turn up in your credit card account rather than your PP account, by the way. Depends on how you paid.
