Buyer declines cancellation of transaction. What happens then?

I purchased an item and the seller cancelled the transaction without notice when she found a defect.  Paypal notified me of cancellation, and then ebay notified me.  I found out what the defect was and decided to purchase the item anyway.  I therefore declined to cancel the transaction.  Seller then reinvoiced me to reflect deduction in list price for the defect.  I paid that invoice too as I didn't want an 'unpaid' invoice on my record.  I want to know what happens to the original transaction?  Will it still be cancelled or have I ended up paying twice for the same item?

Hi wetaskiwin50,

Please make sure you keep contact with your Seller about this, as only they can apply an Unpaid Item Strike for that transaction. It sounds like you're both in agreeance of completing the transaction, so the strike shouldn't apply.

Well, that's a nerve-wracking response from eBay!

I was under the impression that if the buyer declined the Mutual Cancellation, the transaction stayed live, the seller paid fees, both parties can leave feedback and there can be no Unpaid Item Dispute opened.

When did this change?
