Good morning

Has anyone else received the Canada Post/eBay email regarding a special offer to use Electronic Shipping Tools and getting one free month of shipping? And of course the common promise of extra shipping discounts.

When I called CPC about the free month of shipping, they did not have a clue what I was talking about.

Anyone else have any info?

As I understand it, the free month translates into either a refund or a credit of one-twelfth of what you spent during the year after a full year of use and, if memory serves, the extra discounts applied to a limited number of services, none of which I use. I guess that's why I promptly forgot about the whole deal!

When CPC called me back today, they said that they know nothing about the one month free and I should talk to eBay.

I asked them to find the people that setup the relationship with eBay. Needless to say, I doubt I'll be hearing back from them.

I called PowerSeller help line and they gave me a link:

To get the discount, I have to use electronic form which I hate because I have to input the shipping information twice (I have my own database). Also, I compared the price for Expedited Parcel. It is higher than the counter price with a V1. I sent an email the Canada Post and they explained that the electronic shipping would have the parcels cleared on the truck, which is faster, and that's why it costs more.

I gave up and keep doing my manual forms, actually printed by my matrix printer:-).

I could do templates to print the new small packet forms and all sorts of other stuff.

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one having problems getting the "one month free shipping".

I'm still waiting to hear back from CPC on this, so I guess I will have to wait until next week. I hope that it isn't in the form of some credit after a year as it makes their promotion somewhat misleading. I agree with people here that the Electronic Shipping Tools are actually MORE work for shippers and is poorly designed. I certainly wouldn't have signed up for it without the promise of the free month of shipping.

What is really frustrating is that when you talk to CPC directly (through the business toll free number), nobody knows anything about this deal.

I asked them to touch base with whoever owns the relationship with eBay and they cannot find out. The person I was dealing with has given up.

Last week I e-mailed CP and included the links to both the eBay and CP web addresses that mentioned this offer and I received an e-mail today saying that they would look into this and have someone get in contact with me. Way to keep on top of things, CP!

1 month free shipping? Wow, according to Canada Post they will average your sales (EST only) from Oct 04 to Sept 05 and give you a credit on your account for 1 month! Too bad they FORCE you to use a credit card each and every time you use the EST with an eBay PowerSeller account. And too bad the month is given as "a credit to your account". Guess you'll never get to use the credit since you have to use a credit card every time. Smooth one, CP

Not such a great deal. I'll be passing!

It would be a decent offer if they ever fix that tiny but somewhat critical oversight. Note that credit is only give for US parcels (including small packets) done through EST. I generally don't use EST for my US parcels and I doubt I'm going to change that. The incentive of a free month is inticing but I'm trying to avoid the headache I know I'm going to have trying to collect that credit next year.

Well then there's even more contradictory information given by CPC because I'm looking at a promotion page right now and it says the offer is for U.S. and International shipping, except:

*USA & International Small Packet not included in One Month Free Shipping Offer.

Who knows? All the info I have (including the mailing from eBay.ca says that US small packets are included in the free month offer when using EST). I'm not french-frying my brain worrying about some poorly put together pseudo-offer from CP that A) nobody at CP apparently knows anything about and B)probably will be useless credit that you'll never be able to use.

If you are already using EST, hopefully you'll get the credit when the time comes. I'm not going through the paces of using EST in hopes of a credit that looks like will never happen.

Small packets are never included in any kind if discount. And they certainly can't say it is because it is inexpensive. It is very expensive after the rate hikes in January.

It seems as if Canada Post does not want anything to do with small packages. I took one to the post office the other day, and they would not send it because it was too small!! It was a small box weighing 220 grams. The measurements were not accepted in the computer. But I can send a bubble envelope of any size.

They just leave me constantly scratching my head.

The offer was never for a discount on small packets. The offer was that purchasing small packets through EST counted towards the free month. There are conflicting reports whether small packets count towards the credit.

Anyways, do you happen to know the new small packet rates come January. I can't seem to find that info anywhere.
