Don't know how to do something? Ask eBay seller

Hello, i am looking to build a pair of very bright off road lights for my quad. I am looking to put as many led lights in the housing as i can fit. My question to you is: can i hook these led lights directly to the power source (12 volts) or do i need some kind or resister or inverter, when i wire these up do i wire them in series or parallel, are some led lights brighter then others, because i would like the brightest ones i can get. Can you just make a list of all the stuff i need and i'll just buy that. Thank you for your time. I can be contacted via email at (email removed)

****

You need resistors or current source.

You can wire then in branches of 3 LEDs and one 120 ohm resistor in series

Hope this helps

I would like to wire up 200 of your brightest led lights to a 12 volt automotive power source. Can you make a list of everything i need to do this and i will order that complete list of things throu you guys. Thanks

****

While I do not mind answering, I had to block few people after 5-6 emails.

My experience is that folks attempting the job they have no training for end up either frustrated or drown me in after-sale emails or both.

Just recently had a guy in need to fix his 120V appliance. he said the fried capacitor was red color, which part would replace it. I answered capacitors have 5-8 important electrical and mechanical characteristics and color is not one of them, and if he has no electrical training he should not attempt repairing his appliance.

Considering blocking such buyers after 2nd How to question. The experience shows, if there is 2nd, there will be 3rd and 4th. If they need to ask these questions, they are not up to the job and should not be buying these part but rather hiring someone to do it for them.

Or perhaps I should offer the tech-support service at a rate $85/hr. If they are serious, I make some profit 🙂

How about something along this line:

"For liability reason we cannot provide further technical support"

It's probably better just to get a neg than to get sued when someone fries half of their car's electronics after they got their shopping list from me.

That's funny, and yes, I get the same kind of thing - although it's usually someone wanting me to look something up and scan the page for them; they seldom want to actually spend money, so you are ahead of me there!

When I worked with a seller of antique maps the bane of his existence was people who wanted to borrow a map to photocopy it, because some ancestor had come from there.

They would get very huffy when he pointed out that xerography could damage the valuable map, but he was willing to sell it to them.

And there is a hilarious thread on an Australian stampboard just now with apparently intelligent collectors (well, they can spell) who just don't understand why auction houses charge both buyers and sellers commissions on lots.

Or perhaps I should offer the tech-support service at a rate $85/hr. If they are serious, I make some profit 🙂

I'm with you there...

Yup, love those kinds of questions...

My favorites are like this one:

"Do you think your antennas would work for me, I use an Xp computer, and my friend uses a Linksys router at his house"

I actually had to type up a template answer, as I simply can't answer questions like this. It basically spells out that there are a lot of variable, distance, radiating power, obstructions, interference, etc, and the only thing to do to actually see if it's OK, is to buy the item, and if it doesn't work, send it back. I could sugarcoat it from here to next week, but it does boil down to this...

And sometimes I get a reply like this:

"OK, I see you don't really know what you are doing, I will buy it tomorrow, when the checks come, but if it doesn't work, be prepared for trouble !!!!!"

At this point, I do stuff that makes them send yet another email:

"Hey, for some reason I can't buy it, what's happening ???"

This is one of the emails that I don't answer after that...

Some people need a brain transplant. They should start with scraping out the old one, after that whatever happens, happens...

Imagine coming to car dealership and demanding answers how to install the parts you bought from them. They will not show you, but they will do it for you.

Perhaps something like this might work:

Dear customer, we provide a professional installation of parts you would purchase from us even at your location. We have very friendly rate of $85/hr and we charge travel and other expenses only at cost.

Please email me with more details about the project and I will be happy to get back to you with very competitive estimate.

I get a lot of camera repair questions. Camera repair is a $75 to $150 an hour profession, mostly because of the specialized optical equipment and parts inventory that is required.

So when someone asks if the $16 part I am selling would be the right part to fix their camera, I just write back nicely with "Thanks for your email. Unfortunately at the amazingly low prices we sell at, we can't afford to give repair advice!" That usually puts a stop to it.

I remember hearing a long time ago about someone who ate at a restaurant, liked the food and asked for a recipe. He got the recipe along with a whopping huge bill for it. I believe he was then going to post it online to share it with the rest of the world. At least that way he would get his money's worth out of it.

He got the recipe along with a whopping huge bill for it.

It was a cookie recipe and the story is an Urban Legend.

There seem to be a lot of those online. Why do people waste their time making these things up? Some may be accidental but I have seen some that had to be deliberate.
